    Sub Vent - Cooler Door

Here is the door I made this past winter for our 220. I saw the solid door at the dealership and decided I would make a door myself. We keep our cooler in this compartment and the kids have a difficult time pushing the seat down. My wife wanted a design on the door and this is what we came up with. The door works awesome with the kids!

Really nice work, I'd love to see it with some LED backlighting.

That would be a great feature for CC to add to every boat.

            You did a great job!!!

              Awesome Job!!!

What did you use for the metal grate... Expanded aluminum, stainless mesh?

I ordered King Starboard (1/2 inch thick) from Ebay. The latch was ordered from CC (was the most expensive part of the door). The mesh is polished stainless with 3/16 inch holes. A friend gave me a scrap piece of this mesh so I don't have any idea where to buy this (if anyone knows, let me know). All screws (bought from Home Depot) and hinge (bought from local marina) are stainless.

I made my first door out of MDF to make certain it would look right and that I could do it! I have attached pictures showing the MDF door. Hardest part of entire project was cutting the hole in the boat where the door goes.

King Starboard is very easy to work with using normal wood working tools. The Nautique logo was customed sized and printed to use as template for cutting. The logo was cut out with scroll saw then routed around the edges and sanded down to 1000 grit sandpaper. I routed the back of the door for the mesh to be inset so no one would get cut or snagged on the metal edges. My version of the door does not have a gas shock. I believe the factory version has this shock........but my version isn't factory - it's BETTER!!!!
