This system was put in by the previous owner. It worked great when he used it and when I bought the boat.
Ballast system includes:
Ballast Box:
• Custom built for a 1988 2001 Nautique but will likely fit other boats as well.
• 4 layers of fiberglass covered in new carpet.
• Empty weight = 400lbs.
• Full weight = roughly 1,600lbs.
• Fills and empties using the included bilge pump (I have this mounted in the bilge with
ports through the hull of the boat for ease of filling and no spills but this is not
necessary).
• Hidden fill ports, fill hoses (not included) attach at the back and bottom of the box and can be run under the floor to pumps located in the bilge if you want.
• Fast drain option – you can drain the box faster than the bilge pump through a larger
PVC pipe into the boat bilge. This is good to use to quickly drain the box with the boat
on a trailer or lift (PVC pipe not included).
• Overflow vent at the top of the back rest for maximum filling.
• Use this ballast box instead of a back seat (works great as a back seat / back sun deck)
Bilge pump:
• Jabsco waterpump model 6360-1001.
• 12 volt, 6.8 amp (7 amp slow blow fuse).
• 6.3 gallons per minute pumping capacity.
• Ports fit 1/2” or 3/4” hose.
Battery:
• Autozone (slightly smaller than a truck battery).
• Cold cranking amps = 525
• Charging amps = 650
• Previously used as an extra battery to run this bilge pump to fill this box and to run a
large stereo system.
Front weights = approximately 220 lbs.
• Used in the front of the boat to even the boat weight front to back
• 6 plastic coated metal plate weights from a weight lifting machine (roughly 37lbs apiece)
• Plastic coating on weights prevents weights from rusting and keeps rust stains off
your carpet
This makes a great permanent ballast set-up. I’m actually looking for a smaller wake on my boat which is the only reason I’m selling. Let me know and I can post more pictures, box dimensions, or you can come by and look at it.
