Clean 1993 Nautique Excel v-Drive in NC. (Barefoot Nautique) Wakeboard Tower, etc.

1993 Nautique Excel for sale in very good condition. Boat has approximately 635 hours and lots of nice upgrades. Always kept clean and well maintained. The closed bow vDrive is a very nice configuration. It provides a huge sundeck for laying out and a ton of storage under the bow and in the engine bay. It has a nice open cabin unlike inboard boats.

This is a fantastic hull. It has a very deep V that cuts through chop as well as most modern wakeboard boats. It was a big step up from most previous ski boats and still performs very well today. Great for those busy holiday weekends when the lake is an absolute mess. This boat will also throw a great wakeboard wake if you load it down and feels very confident when weighted due to the tall gunwales and stable ride.

The Good:
- 1993 was the first year Correct Craft did not use any wood in the floor or stringers of their boats. This was a huge factor for me purchasing this boat! Wood floors and stringers are a huge liability on an older boat.
- PCM 351 engine cranks easily and runs very well. Runs very smooth and has no smoke.
- Replaced ignition system using SkiDim.com's "Protec Retro Kit" in 2011. The original "Protec" electronic ignition is known to be problematic and it failed last year. It sounds like I got more use out of it than most Nautique owners, but it eventually failed on me too.
- New Marine Holley 600CFM carburetor installed in 2011. Also purchased from SkiDIM.com. I put this on while trying to resolve the issues caused by the failing Protec ignition. The carb was not the problem, but the boat runs better and cranks easier with the new carb so it was a good upgrade.
- New carpet 4 years ago. Nice midnight grey carpet replaces the old worn out blue carpet that came in the boat.
- Interior is in nice shape.
- Sony CD player with iPod input (just a few years old, works perfectly!)
- Two nice Kenwood amps powering four Polk MM series cabin speakers, two Liquid Audio Sounds tower speakers, and a JL 10" subwoofer. The stereo sounds great!
- 13th Floor Wakeboard Tower with two board racks and tower speakers.
- Sunbrella Bimini top.
- 4 Blade Prop. This was a nice upgrade from the stock 3 blade prop for wakeboarding.
- Two batteries with selector switch. One Optima Blue Top battery and one regular battery from an auto parts store.
- Trailer is a 2005 Eagle with surge brakes. Much newer and in better condition than most original 1993 model trailers. Good tires and comes with a spare tire.


The Bad:
- A few bumps and scrapes as you'd expect on a boat of this age. No signs that any major damage has ever been done to this hull.
- Interior not perfect. No big tears or stains, but you can see some normal wear and tear. Still in very good shape though; nothing that warrants replacement.
- The horn works intermittently. I just keep a whistle on board to satisfy Coast Guard requirements and haven't had a chance to troubleshoot it. Probably an easy fix.
- You don't own it.

Thanks for the compliment! I have enjoyed the boat and have no regrets on having owned it. I did have some downtime last summer when the Protec ignition failed, but other than that it has been pretty solid. I've never had to have it towed in. ::knock on wood::

Oh, one more thing to add to the list of issues...The lockout in the throttle that prevents you from accidentally bumping it into gear doesn't work (the little ring you're supposed to have to lift up to put it in forward/reverse). It's an easy fix and probably should be done as a safety thing.

Thanks Jeff. It's a really nice layout. You can fit a lot of gear under the bow and in the engine compartment and it stays perfectly dry.

Forgot to mention that it comes with two covers. One is the original snap in cover. It's not in the best shape, but it's good for keeping 90% of the water out. An hour with an awl and some thread would make a huge difference as most of the issues are very minor (stitches coming loose at the edge, poorly cut to fit around the tower, etc.). I keep it stuffed in the bow and put it on when the boat is at the dock and a storm comes. The other cover is a mid-range cover from Overtons that is either one or two years old. That's the one I use when the boat is on the trailer.

I've got to say...This hull really is fantastic. I replaced it with an 02 Malibu Sunsetter, but I hope to be back in a vDrive Nautique in a year or two. Wind chop translates through the hull and into the floor on my Sunsetter; something that has never been a problem with the Excel. I have to lift the throttle in my Sunsetter for boat wakes that wouldn't even phase the Excel. The Sunsetter has an open bow, perfect pass, ballast, wedge, etc. going for it, but the hull just isn't the same IMO.

My Sunsetter is probably more comparable to a Ski Nautique than a Air Nautique, so it may not really be a fair comparison. Still, this is a great boat for this price range.

Although I'm personal not a fan of towers on classic boats, I love that tower. The detailed work is bar none the best I have seem. Very sweet ride, especially without the graphics.

93 was the first year the ski nautique and sport nautique had fiberglass stringers. 93 & 94 excels aNd barefoots were wood. 95 was the year they became super sports and had Fiberglass stringers. I have never heard of one of these deep v drives having a stringer problem though.

^ Do you have a source? This is the first I've heard of it, but I did some Googling and it seems to be up for debate. It seems nobody has pulled the floor off one of these boats and documented it yet.

I went back to the 1993 CC Brochure where it touts the fiberglass stringers and it doesn't say anything about the Excels/Barefoots getting wood stringers. This was my source for thinking it had fiberglass stringers. The floor is definitely fiberglass, but I may have been mistaken in saying that the stringers are fiberglass too.

Yes, the ICS (Integrated Composite Stringer System) debuted in 1993. I dont believe it says that every single Correct Craft model got it. If you flip through the '93 brochure, you'll notice that the Ski Nautique and Sport Nautique both specifically mention the ICS as a feature. The Excel/BFN does NOT.

The speculation is that CC did not invest in the tooling and molds to add the ICS to the Excel when it was slated to be replaced 2 years later (the Super Sport replaced it in 1995). No one has proven this either way... but it seems like a valid theory!

All Correct Crafts dating back to 1971 had fiberglass floors (and many earlier models did as well). There was simply wood structure underneath the fiberglass skin on all models through 1992.
