For those of you waiting to upgrade or buy a boat this summer, you patience is about to be rewarded. Up for sale is what many would consider to be the ultimate 1st Generation Super Air Nautique – 2002 SANTE, black with black deck and white stripe (2002 catalog boat) with an 8.1 / 496 Cu In Python big block engine. While equipped very, very well from the factory, the careful and very professional modifications made to the boat bring it up to modern levels of wake and audio performance.

The story:
First, she came from the factory with matching black deck and hull – striking in any color but especially so in black. Then the original owner added the 425 HP and more importantly 505 Ft-Lbs of Torque 8.1 L Big Block PCM Python engine option. These are rare as the premium at the time of purchase was $9,000. The power of this engine is remarkable, as is the exhaust note from unmuffled dual 4” exhaust ports. If you love the rumble of pre-Inverta Flow boats…this is the modern Nautique for you. The engine does not use a drop of oil (characteristic of the earlier 8.2/502 Pythons) and has been bulletproof. Gas usage is very close to the GT40 and GM Small blocks unless you play in the upper ¾ range of the throttle. I don’t therefore I haven’t paid a gas penalty. AmsOil fluids / WIX-NAPA filters keep her running strong.
Additional factory items include: Pop up cleats, Air/Water temp gauge, Perfect Pass, Depth Finder (crap Humminbird replaced with Faria in 2010), Clock, Heater, Shower and retractable stern light. The digital gauges were replaced once and continue to work well.
Condition – the boat has been very well cared for and its condition reflects it. I’m the third owner and bought it from a guy who owned it since 2003. He was obsessive and I am too. The interior is next to spotless. The vinyl is soft, seams tight and bright; I buy 303 by the gallon. My kids were only allowed Sprite and white corn tortilla chips – if I found a Cheeto on board I’d have one less tax deduction – if you know what I’m getting at. Now we have a beater pontoon for them to eat on – cheap insurance for keeping the Nautique nice.
The gel cote is exceptional as well. It was rubbed out and buffed in 2011 that brought the ever-so-slightly hazy black back to a deep, uniform black. While not perfect, it is definitely exceptional, especially for a 10 year old boat. It won the 2011 Best In Class award at the CorrectCraftFan.Com midwest reunion.
There have been several upgrades to the boat, all executed to a very high level. Audio has been improved, electronics upgraded and an incredible ballast system was installed in this boat in 2010. More details to follow.
