ZO is Zero Off, which is the USAW / AWSA approved speed control system for 3 event tournaments. 3 event skiers naturally overwhelmingly choose to train behind the same system they'll encounter at a tournament, so most seek out a ZO equipped boat. If one has an '08 and beyond 196, ZO is plug and play at around $1,600. The older you get, the more it costs, as the engine ECM either has to be flashed or replaced. The last I heard, to add ZO to an '04-'05 was around $3k, so not cheap. If one has a GT-40 Ford (any Ford for that matter), it's not even possible, and a GM repower is required - $10,000 to $12,000 job (ballpark).

It's that additional $3k that CAN make an '04-'05 a little harder to sell...again depending on what the buyer plans on doing with it. It turns a $25k boat into a $28k boat, close to what a later-model ZO equipped boat can be found for. Most 196 buyers are course skiers, and therefore require ZO. When I sold my '06 and '07, both new owners swapped out PP/Stargazer before ever putting the boats in the water.

Again, I'm not taking anything away from pony's boat, it's just kind of the nature of the beast right now. If someone is cool with SG, I think this boat would be a great find. I have no doubt that buyer will surface soon, as not everyone needs or cares about ZO, but no ZO does lowers the buyer universe. Heck, if my wife would let me buy a boat this year, I'd PM pony on this one.

22k is a smoking deal on that boat for someone who doesn't need zero off.

It almost seems like there are two 196 buyers out there right now. One who buys an '07-'09 ZO equipped, and then the guys who don't need ZO, so they're looking for a $13k '97-'99 TSC1 to pop in Z Box. It's putting the early to mid 2000 models into a sort of doughnut hole. I fall into the second category, as I don't need to own a ZO boat, but can save $10k by just buying a TSC1 with essentially the same wake. With that said, at $22k, a buyer has to surface this spring.
