    Barefoot Int'l Boom Wanted

I am considering getting a boom so that I can teach my oldest son to ski - he's autistic and I've heard that this had been successful in other disability situations.

    Two Questions:

    (1) Which boom (e.g. tower or center pylon) should I be looking for? Why?

    (2) Do you know anyone looking to sell theirs? I'm not overly excited about buy one new.

        RE: Barefoot Int

We have a pylon boom and like it. The drawback is that you have to step over it when it is installed. If you use it all the time and don't want to step over it, the tower mount one would be nice.

        Check out this thread.

We thought about the tower boom, but it's twice the price and heard that it is a bit difficult to install/remove. The pylon mount boom has less pieces so it takes up less room when storing.

We called BI direct and ordered a boom that had been returned.($312 shipped) They just didn't want to repackage the boom into a new box!

                Ok - couple of updates.

CEASTWEB - sounds like the tower boom is more hastle and pricey- so pylon boom is what I am looking for. thanks for info.

Air Jeff - I took your advice and contacted BI directly. They called me an are looking into such an option. Will let you know - thx.

Deester - was not quite what I am looking for, but thanks.

Derby - sent you a note.

Any others, I'm still looking - thx.

Thanks to AirJeff, I contacted BI and got a slightly blemished straightboom for $300 incl. shipping + a boom bag.

                  Thanks again!

                  Question:
                  (1) Is there anything I can put between the clamps and my pylon to avoid scratches on my boat center pylon?

                  (2) Do any of you have the add'l Height adjutsment accessory? Is it needed? Since I have a 5 and 12 year old, they are very different in height.

I'd try a rubber jar opener thingy or something rubbery and grippy. slice apart a bike tire inner tube maybe. not sure about the height adjuster though, you probably could get away with just moving the clamp up for the youngn'
                    I don\'t care.

Id say the height adjustment isnt really necessary. We have a boom where you can adjust the height, and we rarely use more than 2 settings. Shifting weight inside the boat is the easiest way to change boom height- we usually have a person behind the motorbox who will move to either side, giving a higher or lower boom, as needed.

I have the height adjustment and I use it all the time. But, I have a wide variety of sizes and shapes. But you could definitely get by without it.

Also.....I mount my boom on the driver's side. I have to use "movable" counter weight (people), but I prefer to teach and drive at the same time. And, I don't have to step over the boom when it's behind the driver's seat.

Another plus is that this configuraton keeps the skier on the driver's side of the boat for pick up and retrieval....which is very important for our safety requirements.

I have a height adjuster and would recomend it. Having it reduces the chances of scratching your pylon, and you are never readjusting the clamp. Be sure to get a quick change pin that BI offers too!

                            Cool - thx.

Do you leave your pylon mount in place all the time? Does it get in the way (e.g. easy to hit when boom is put away)? I have a 5 yr old and fear him getting hurt by it sticking out some.

I keep my pylon clamp installed all the time. I also use the height adjsuter and have been happy with the flexibility it provides. As a side note I also take an extra throuwable seat cushion put boom through the straps for some additional gunnel protection.
