    1978 Mustang 17 $6,000

We are selling the boat we bought in 1979 new from Midwest Correct Craft. This is a one owner boat that has been babied since we acquired it. Frankly, we never thought we'd have the boat this long, but we are grateful that it has served us well, and continues to run great. Our family is growing and we need to buy a bigger boat, but rest assured, the replacement will definitely be a Nautique.

The motor is the Ford 302. We do the necessary and appropriate service on it annually and it has never required any interior repairs. It had a new Holley carb put on probably 8 years ago, and was tuned up this year with new cap, points and rotor. We have had to replace the impeller every couple of years. Beyond that, it runs flawlessly, and is still strong. I'm impressed with the motor. It has about 1250 hours on it, which for the age, is pretty low I hear.

The interior was professionally redone about 10 years ago. New carpet, new upholstery. We added a rear-facing mirror along the way, and built a back board that allows spotters to face backwards. This Mustang was the last year they had the typical Mustang 17 front bench. The interior color is orange. The gauges are original and all work...sort of. The speedometer they put in the Mustang was lame from the beginning. It picks up the water pressure from under the center of the boat (under the motor area) versus the rear. So...it works but has never been accurate. We set skier speed from the RPM gauge.

The exterior has a small chip on the blow and one on the stern, but neither are deep into the fiberglass. The stainless steel rails have been used well, but are still holding up. All original. It has the original exterior graphics in paint...and is holding up reasonably well after all the years. Some of it has worn off (as you can see from the pictures) but it still has definition and good color. This has the rear ladder, which sports the original teak wood steps.

When it was new, we had Midwest install a ski tow pylon and also a fin under the center of the boat. It corners better than most Mustangs.

The boat has always been stored during season on a lift with a tarp over the boat. And in the winter, it is stored inside on a trailer. The trailer is a story in itself. Sometime in 1978, a person bought a Nautique from Midwest, and when they pulled out of the driveway, they lost control of their car and ran the car, boat (not ours) and trailer off the road into a tree. The boat (not ours) was heavily damaged in the accident and the trailer kinda bent a little bit. That's the trailer we have. It now has been repainted (not professionally) to reduce rust. The bearings are recently greased, and the tires are new last year. The wiring is new. It functions well. We generally only used the trailer to go 1 mile to the boat launch every spring and the 1 mile back to the house in the fall. However, we towed the boat about 200 miles this year, and the trailer did great. So, it's road worthy...just not terribly good looking.

The tarp is not new, but it does not have tears. It is a snap down variety.

The boat is located in North Eastern Indiana, near the town of Fremont (45737). It's currently on the lift and ready to be driven if you are serious and interested. I don't think you will be disappointed, or necessarily find a more clean inboard from this era.

You an see a video of the boat here:

I am asking $6,000 for the boat and trailer.

We also have a ShoreMaster aluminum 8' levered lift if you are interested. Let me know.

That is a specimen. I loved the video and the boat is beautiful. Like a 60's muscle car! GLWS
