I made one of those a few years ago - the plans were in WaterSki Magazine.

Doug, pour the gas into the PVC pipe/funnel and stick the hose in your boat. The PVC funnel sits up above the boat, that way you have a nice flow. You also don't spill gas all over the boat since this is easier to handle than a gas can.

Figured something like that but it does not look like it would hold much fuel. Is there a shut off on the hose?

With this one, I'm guessing that someone is up top pouring while the other is holding the hose in the boat.

Just stick the hose in the boat and pour through the PVC - really simple. The flow rate in the one I made is faster than I can pour (even taking the spout off of the gas can). I also made a filter for mine, and caulked the PVC connections to prevent any dripping. I think I paid about $20 for the parts at Home Depot. Took about 5 minutes to make.

If you guys are making these things, do it the right way and use PVC cement with primer to put the fittings together.

I my dock, I have a slip, my brother has one, and my dad has another. I made something but it's not bolted to the dock. I used a big funnel you find at a drag race supply store with a 6' length of 1 1/4"id vinyl tubing. We have a few bungy cords that you just loop around a cross member on the dock, hang the funnel / insert the hose, and pour away. As OK had mentioned above, it accepts fuel as fast as you can pour it w/o a spout...can pour 5 gals of gas in 30-45 seconds.

I built it back in the early 90's when my dad got a boat that was longer than the boat slip, with the fuel filler on the transom. Has worked like a champ ever since...

Great idea edwin. I'm going to build the same rig this summer after seeing that. I hate standing on the swim platform with a 5 or 6 gallon gas container while the boat's floating at the dock. This scenario only happens on vacation, so I need a portable solution like that.

I followed the directions almost exactly - i used primer and PVC glue, but after a few years it started leaking, so I caulked the edge where the pvc attaches to the pvc reducer. I added a filter (basically a very fine strainer) in between the hose and the pvc.

Make sure you use fuel rated hose. If you use silicon tubing for instance it will swell up and leak badly.

How does PVC hold up to gas?

I know gas is a great solvent.
