Opinion on response from buyer. - SOLD

What do you think of this? I have seen these overseas scams prior to this but this one seams to have a bit more info in it. Below is the note sent to me.

RE: Opinion on response from buyer.

Mark, I have sold several of my show cars to people out of state before, and they were picked up at my front door by the auto delivery service, and shipped to the buyers home. When I had ALL of the money wired into my account, the car was theirs, and away it went. Once, a guy paid me, having seen only the pics I e-mailed him, in FULL, and took 4 weeks to come get it. My point is, you know YOU are an honest straight shooter, but you know NOTHING of the other guy. IF this is on the level, he'll have to trust you, or too bad. IMHO!!!

Also, if he were to agree with those terms, go to your bank, and open up a new savings account just for that transaction . Do NOT let monies come or go from your main everyday account. As soon as the money arrives, and the bank says all's well, transfer the money to your other account. Routing numbers can relesase money as well as receive. Don't want anyone to have your boat, and your money as well.

    Regards!! Mike

RE: Opinion on response from buyer.

Too many internet scams are out there. I would ignore it unless the guy, or his representative agrees to give you cash, in your bank, and the teller verifies each piece of money is not counterfeit. Do not accept the cash any where but in your bank, and do not give him or his representative the title to the boat until you verify all the cash is in your account. He, or his representative carries the cash until it is given to your teller.
It will cost a lot to get the boat to a port he wants you to ship out of. Take that into account.
Personally, I would try to sell the boat in the same country you live in.

I have sold plenty in the states, but have yet to sell out of country. The weird thing about this is that there is an address and other info that you normally dont see on those mesages. Thanks for the advise on how to go about it.

I think it's a scam, but, of course, I could be wrong. It just reads like every spam message I've ever gotten.

          That said, ...

I sold my MC internationally (Canada), but delivered it halfway between Texas and Canada. Bottom line for me was this: if you're taking delivery anywhere but in my driveway or at my local dealer, I'm not pulling the boat out of the driveway until I have been paid in full and payment has been verified by my bank. The buyer and I entered into a purchase agreement, I took care of delivery costs per our agreement, and I insured the boat for loss up to and until it was attached to his truck, at which point the agreement stated that he was responsible for loss. He purchased the boat without a test drive and the written agreement set forth that he had forgone the opportunity. I represented the boat to be in operable condition and disclosed one operational quirk I had noticed. Bottom line, I told him I would be glad to go for a ride in his boat when I met him in St. Louis. It was raining, so that didn't happen though. It was good to hear from him by the time he'd made it back to Canada that the boat had started easily and was running fine. Took a lot of faith in me as a buyer I know, but I wasn't about to negotiate the terms 900 miles from home.

All transactions (deposit and balance) were paid via wire transfer. It made it easier that I knew the guy (in a way) from the MC forum.

          FWIW.

Wow, there is an address.....do you know if it's real? Take everyone's advice here and use some common sense, more than likely it's a scam.

I would have to agree. Once the boat is gone from the country, good luck trying to get it back and/or the remaining 50% of the price. Plus don't think the Japaneese government will be willing to extradite him to the US for trial on charges for a small felony theft (due to the amount). I live in northeast OH-IO a woman killed her husband and fled to Brazil. The FBI has contacted Brazil, it is confirmed that she is there and they refuse to cooperate to turn her over to the US authorities. This is a murderer, do you think it is worth their time over a scam involving a boat. TO you and I the guy might as well of commited murder, but to the authorities it's just a scam involving a boat. I would be very hesitant to engage in a transaction based upon what you received.

                Mark,
Probably a scam, but I agree with others to have the full payment wired to your account before moving the boat. Don't accept any other form of payment because all others can reversed many months later if they are fraudulant, wire transfer is complety finished when the money hits your bank. Tell the buyer those are your terms take them or leave them.

                      Mark,
In 2001, before all the internet scams started, I sold my 96 SN to a guy in Japan. I initially blew it off but he kept emailing me more more info. He initially wanted to do the 50/50 payment, but I told him 100% payment upfront and shipping costs. Next thing I knew, he was wiring the full asking price into my bank account plus $3k for shipping. The wire was legit, I pulled the money out, and had the boat shrink wrapped and took it to Jax. docks for shipping.
He even sent me some pics of him receiving the boat at Tokyo docks. I guess they are really expensive over there.
Exchange a few emails and feel him out. Hope it helps some

Sold my 196 this year to a guy in Canada. The deal went great for both parties. I agreee with everyone's response. All the money upfront (bill of sale etc) all of the boat delivered!

Scams like this make it hard for people like me. I live in Australia and imported a 88 2001 2 years ago, all funds were in the sellers account before the boat left. there is still an element of trust when doing it but i guess if the person seems genuine enough you have to go for it. No other way in getting a used boat over here unless you head to the states and pay for it in person.[/b]

                            Yep,
Done it several times. It's really hard for a buyer to get 100% trust to wire all your saving money to an account in the states. And then wait for 2 months until you can pick up your boat (hopefully) at the harbour!
Most of the time did it with a respectable freight forwarder as a contact person. So we wire all the money to him (with shipment, transport, taxes, harbour fees and other costs). He confirms when he received the money, as the seller will release the numbers of the boat/engine so the shipment can be handled by the forwarder. He'll wire 50% or something to the seller. The seller will release the boat (to the harbour or transport company). The forwarder will wire the rest of the money to the seller when he sees the boat and confirm the numbers and the looks of the boat (the boat can also be checked). The boat will be shipped. This way (with a respectable and independeble contact person) both party's have their warranty's and can be sure that they will receive the money for their boat and receive the boat for their money....

The buyer has contacted me through this site and I have been excahnging e-mails. In the end my sale will run through my dealer(SON) and theyares well versed in this stuff. Its a tough way for the buyer to get a boat in Japan, but what do you do? The best I can get is past buyer refrences on boats sold to the buyer.
