WTD: SAN or Sport Nautique with Python 502

I am looking for a SAN or Sport Nautique with Python 502. I found one down here in Houston, and the day I went to look at it it was alreasy sold :| . Would like to find one close to Texas, but not a requirement.

Does anyone know how many were manufactured and from what years? I hae only seen 99 and 00.

    Thanks, Ronnie

The "SAN" was first available in '99 I have no idea how many boats came equipped from the factory with a Python, but I believe that they stopped putting them in boats after 2003. So your range of years would be '99-'03. They are somewhat scarce, I would guess that if you really want that motor there's a good chance that you're going to have to travel for it.

It's a great motor from what I hear, they discontinued it because it couldn't meet CARB requirements.

Any reason why you want the 8.0/8.1L motor? The GT40 is a hard motor to beat, very flat torque curve and lots of low end torque. I wouldn't opt for the Python unless I was running a really loaded down boat. (3,000lbs of ballast or so) It sounds cool, but also eats through gas pretty bad from what I've heard.

But that's just my opinion, not to mention the non Python boats don't have that awkward hump in the rear decklid.

    Good luck.
    How about \"Chales\"?

    RIP Nikolai (\'05 SANTE) 5/23/05 - 4/30/06

I ran across a write up that states only 11 python SANs were produced in '99 (http://www.airnautique.com/502.cfm). Not sure how many came afterwards, but it was a relatively pricey engine upgrade.

One things for sure, having that monster engine in your boat definitely would set you apart from the crowd!

        Dragon88,

Thanks for the information. I am looking for the Python engine because it is something different, and who wouln't want a big block in your boat? I do realize however that my search might take me some time and I will have to be patient (this is going to be difficult). I think that the GT40's are great engines, and will be what I will probably have if I cannot find the one I want.

My friend, the Zman (airnautique.com admin) bought his new in 99. I found one in NoCal last fall. I committed and got in my truck and drive straight through from MN to get it before someone else did. Our understanding is that there were 11 V-drive boats made with this motor, including SS's. I have a friend with a SNOB with it, as well. That boat is just plain evil. As far as not wanting a big block..... WOW. To each his own. The awkward hump ? please be serious...... They are not that much worse on gas either. Zman has written a pretty comprehensive piece on why that is not really an issue. Loud ? who cares? Powerful, Good Lord yes. I would not sell my 99SAN for anything. I do not believe there is another boat floating that can take mine to task, except Zmans, and that is a tie.
