Can't blame you there.
Honestly, if you can afford to have both that's the way to go. While I love my 200 Sport, at the end of the day it's a crossover boat. It will never slalom like an inboard and never surf like a G. That said for a guy that only wants a single boat and only open water slaloms these days it's a great compromise.
If you want a true slalom boat, the only way you're going to get that is with an inboard designed for that sole purpose.

Thank you "bturner"!
By chance have you had slalom experience behind a non ski/wake, 20'-22' stern drive (regular boat like SeaRay, Chaparral, etc.),that you can offer a comparison to the 200 Sport Nautique? Comparison meaning, size of wake, amount of cavitation , hardness/softness of wake, smoothness/roughness, ski chatter, etc.
Thanks!

I haven't slalomed behind an I/O in the last 15 years or so. I've owned several I/O's ( a couple of Sea Rays, a couple of Wellcraft's and a Cobalt) before moving over to inboards, most had the same typical issues with skiing in general. Most typical were the pull out of the hole and and the wake at speed.
My worst vDrive (a 07 MasterCraft X2) for slalom was better across the board than any of my stern drive boats. Most noticeable was the pull out of the water. That said the design point for a vDrive crossover is very different than the typical I/O. Starting off, ski boat manufactures are going to focus on just that, skiing. Skiing for a typical 20' I/O is going to be a second thought as it's just not their primary design consideration.
As far as my experience skiing behind the boat..... The wake IMO is good at 32mph at 15 off but not the best I've skied. That said it's much better than the X2, the 200 MariStar, or the Ski Tique I used to slalom behind and any of the I/O's I've owned. My BIL's not a fan at 34 at 15 off when comparing it to his 05 Malibu response, says there's a bump there but then again the response is a straight inboard and dedicated 3 event boat. He also stated the wake gets better as the line gets shorter.
Honestly, everyone is going to have a different opinion. Heck, I hear the slalom boys crying about this or that brand new tournament boat, so there is that too. The only way you're going to know if it's going to be acceptable for you is to go out and ski one yourself. I will tell you if you're like several others on this site, you won't be happy with anything other than a dedicated slalom boat, which the 200 Sport Nautique is certainly not. I feel the wake if very good for a recreational ski boat. If you're looking for a course boat, look for an inboard.
