    ACTIVE - GPS puck

    ZERO OFF puck.
I recently had to replace my Zero off gauge in my 08â 230, and then found out after the fact that I also needed a new GPS, and harness. Unfortunately that cost over $1200 alone!
If someone is needing a GPS puck for their zero off from that era, I was hoping to maybe get $100 for this antenna. Nautiques of Orlando gave me a loaner gauge to use and this antenna worked with it so it should be good to go. It would not work with the brand new Zero off gaugeâ¦. Figures. Hopefully no one needs to replace the gaugeâ¦. I believe the harness and puck cost more than the new gauge! Insane.

shag I'm interested in the gps puck you have listed. I have a 2009 230 and the cord coming out of my GPS got damaged. It started not working intermittently, usually when I wanted to surf....I bought a Garmin puck and soldered the wires based on other threads on PN. it still says no GPS. So frustrated. I really just want to try a known good puck, to make sure the old puck didn't short anything out.
Would you take 50$ for the puck you have?
    Thanks

      TXtiki hut,
Did you configure your GPS Puck? When I needed to replace my Garmin GPS18x-5hz puck I had to configure it using the SNSRCFG software downloaded from Garmins website. I am running Perfect Pass, but I would imagine Zero Off may have some unique settings too. PP wanted to sell me a pre configured puck. I could handle the price, but needed the GPS puck sooner than I could get it from Canada. I had to make an adapter for my bare wire GPS unit to connect to a serial port. I downloaded the configuration file from a borrowed PP configured puck. Changed a few settings on the new GPS, added the correct molex connector that fit my PP control unit and was good to go. I don't know if Zero Off will provide you with the correct configuration file, otherwise you need a good puck to download it from. A generic Garmin GPS won't work installed on a Perfect Pass system without being configured. I would guess the Zero Off needs to be configured too. If Zero Off uses a usb connector it would be easier, but I doubt that Probably not applicable to your Zero Off, but here is my PP config file for an example. There is also a GPS 18x Techical Specifications document that has wiring diagrams and everything else you might want to know.

nobrainsd I ordered the antenna through GPS City. in the Q&A section for the antenna a couple people posted that the antenna was plug and play. one user also stated the had 2 antennas arrive dead out of the box.
i shrink wrapped the exposed wire, and just twisted the old antenna wires to the plug wires, to check the connections and take meter readings. the new antenna had 6.4 Mega ohms of resistance between power and ground. (seemed excessive for a 5v system) the old antenna was reading 41K ohms.
i'm returning the new antenna. i needed one for the weekend, so i sealed the old antenna in a spraypaint plastic cap and placed it on the dash. worked 95% of the time. would occasionally drop like 2 mph for a few seconds, then pick back up. i've ordered a new antenna, hopefully to arrive before this weekend. if i have trouble with this one, i'll check the program.
        thank you for the info.

@nobrainsd is right. They are not plug and play out of the box and they do have to configured using SNSRCFG before they will work with ZeroOff. The configuration for ZeroOff is different than Perfect Pass. I've done it before, and have the configuration somewhere....

There are also 2 generations of Garmin GPS18x-5hz modules made by Garmin that use different chipsets. Only the first generation will work with Zero Off. The only way to tell generation 1 from generation 2 is before and after a certain serial number. I have that serial number breakpoint somewhere too, it's with the other info I'd have to search out.
