Need a bimini for my 01 super air nautique! Anyone have one they will sell??
I will be posting up a DIY article soon to explain what I did but I am very happy with the results of modifying a sub $300 TaylorMade universal tower bimini to look and function like the period correct factory bimini. Towerbimini's make an awesome product but for about a 1/3 the price I am extremely happy with my results. I will add more details once I get pics but basically I deleted the rear straps and added a second set of poles that attach to the rear of the tower. This allows it to be up out of the way when booted and gets rid of the need for the rear straps when deployed. Here is a link to the bimini that I started with: http://www.wholesalemarine.com/tower...top-68-71.html I added another $20 or so in parts to make it function and look like the factory bimini.
Here is a pic of it booted, I forgot to take one of it deployed but it worked excellent both ways and seems rock solid. Ignore the PVC pipe rear legs, that was just for test fitting before I cut my stainless tubing to size.

Sorry, been meaning to finish up the project and get some good pics and a writeup together but it rained most days last week and I wanted to take advantage of the good weather and use the boat when I had time this past weekend. So the good news is that my setup continues to be rock solid and function exactly how I want it to whether it is booted or deployed. The bad news is that I did not put the finishing touches on the project or take any better pics. I have a few adjustments to make to get everything totally square and then fine tune the length of the added poles and cut my aluminum ones to replace the PVC.
I ordered all parts and the bimini from Wholesale Marine. They had the best price on the bimini and a great selection of components. I signed up via email and put a few things in my cart and then went away. A few hours later I had an email from them with a code for 10% my entire first order. All said and done I spent $320 shipped to my door and that was with ordering some extra parts because I didn't realize a lot of the stuff was sold in pairs. Here is a rundown of the parts I used:
Item Sku Qty Subtotal
Aluminum Tubing 7/8" x 4' KMI-6100-1-4FT 2 $17.50 My back legs are around 18" so I only should need 1
Bimini - CanopyTop Eye Straps NAT-11713 1 $3.01
Sea-Dog Hinged Top Slide with Bolt S-D-273162-1 2 $8.20 Pretty sure this was a 2 pack and only needed 1
Bimini - Canopy Top External Eye End NAT-11707 4 $20.16 Same as above, I only needed 2 packs of 2
Sea Dog Bimini - Canopy Top Thumb Screws, Pair S-D-273298-1 3 $8.52 I bought more than I needed to have extras
Bimini - Canopy Top Side Mount Deck Hinge NAT-11721 2 $7.16 The bimini came with 2 so I only needed one 2 pack not 2
TOWER BIM ULTIMA ᅠBLACK ᅠ4'X16" 68-71" ZNAT-62128 1 $290.75
Sorry the formatting got all screwed up when I posted. If you can't find those parts via the SKU number then let me know and I will post the links. I will have more pics and explain what I did by Thursday or Friday hopefully. I at least wanted to get the parts needed out there so people can start ordering if they want.
