I think I looked at doing this because I wanted iPod compatibility back in the day, and I am pretty sure the remote uses different cabling, so not only do you need to put a different remote in, you will need to change the cable too and I seem to remember this not being trivial.

Might be easier to find a CMD4 on eBay and use that.

Thank you - super helpful. Found a CMD6 on eBay for a decent price, but guessing it’s not compatible with the remote.
