So I looked around for shore spikes but was generally disappointed with either the quality of the spike or the cost. To get a good stainless steel spike was over $130. So I looked into making one out of 304 Stainless Steel and came up with the following concept. A T-shaped spike that is 28" long with a 8" wide handle and a SS Shackle welded at the T in order to tie off the boat (3/4" round material which is pretty stout). The materials and welding come out to $60 a piece if I do 4 at a time (based on the amount of steel that comes in a rod and the welder prep/setup time). They come out to about 7 pounds so the shipping looks like about $20 each depending on where it is going. I have 1 getting welded right now and should have pictures within the week, but wanted to put it out to see if their would be any interest in me getting a bunch of these made (4 at time minimum). If you have a group of boat friends interested in the same area it would probably reduce shipping costs a bit. I wouldn't make anything from $60 plus shipping, just offering to manage the creation and shipping to anyone who may want one.
If you are interested let me know (no commitment needed right now). I'll try to post a picture of the first one within the week.
