Fresh Air Exhaust - group buy

Frebruary 2008 - Fresh Air Exhaust group buy.

Fresh Air Exhaust is now available for every Nautique ever built. If you enjoy surfing, wish your tower speakers were louder or if you just want to enjoy boating more without so much motor noise the Fresh Air Exhaust (FAE) is a great option.

They will give us $75 off the regular prices through the group buy if we get at least 6 people that want the FAE. The order needs to be placed in February. If you are interested, all I need is your name and e-mail address. You will order the FAE online through www.freshairexhaust.com, when I confirm that you are part of the 6 or more from Planet Nautique your order will be discounted by $75.

Let me know if you are interested.

RE: Fresh Air Exhaust - group buy

Mike I emailed you my name and email yesterday, hope we can get 6 or more in on this. We now surf about as much as we wakeboard and we were planning on this upgrade this year anyway so 75 bucks off sounds good to me.

Mike have you seen any pictures of the hydrogate ones?? The pictures on the web site say that the install is not complete on the hydrogate ones. It looks like a ton of all thread hanging out of the bracket. Just looking out for my shins on the all thread.

Laketexona, I'm pretty sure the pics are of the basic mock up for the hydrogate, the final installation you would trim the threaded rods down to size so you wouldn't have any overhang.

They are also working on some alternative bracketing for boats with the hydrogate and the center platform support. I am taking some extra pictures and extra dimensions off my 211 for them.

The group buy is up to 7 units now.

Send me your name and e-mail if you want to be added to the list.

it is funny that in the performance section they say it increases low end torque, but you will lose one half to one and a half mile an hour top end (which makes sense) but then in the second point they say there is suction effect at high speeds thus improving the high end performance, which contradicts itself.

The FAE website says $375 for single outlet, $425 for dual outlet. Is that the price for polished or black? I assume it's black and the polished is $75 more? Is that correct?

Your assumption is correct $375 for single outlet in black, + $75 for polished, - $75 for group buy = $375 for yours.

There was a question about FAE and issues with PCM. I e-mailed PCM and they replied that the FAE should not cause any problems with PCM motors.

Does he know when these will be done? And is the group buy only for the polished, or can we order the straight black?

I've got all my measurements, but just wanted to double check on when I would get the black FAE after I place the order.

Larry said the Feb orders should be delivered in about 3 weeks. I believe he does them in batches, and I would guess he now has enough for a batch from this groub buy alone.

                          FAE

                          Speck
The following is a more compete explanation of FAE and performance:

FAE has been installed on several hundred boats with about 95% of our customers satisfied with their boat and engine performance. FAE is a dynamic exhaust system, not just a pipe. A swirling exhaust stream will evacuate faster than a straight flowing exhaust stream. As the exhaust stream passes through the FAE it is set into a swirling motion and therefore evacuates faster. In other words, FAE is more efficient than straight pipe. Also, due to the patent pending shape of the FAE, when the boat is moving forward, as the water flows past the downpipe, a venturi (vacuum) effect is created. This venturi effect also helps to evacuate the exhaust stream faster. A faster flowing exhaust stream results in reduced back pressure.

With FAE installed, on initial acceleration from stopped, there will be a small increase in back pressure within the exhaust system. This small increase in back pressure will likely increase the torque of the engine, thus improving take off acceleration and pulling power. As the boat speeds up, the venturi effect on the downpipe increases, thus removing the exhaust stream quicker. Consequently, between swirling and venturi effects FAE is a dynamic exhaust system that “adjusts” relative to the boat speed.

Boat engine manufacturers do not design nor certify boat exhaust systems. The exhaust valves on boat engines are heavier duty than typical on car engines to accommodate the various exhaust systems in the different brands of boats. Boat engine manufacturers specify that the exhaust backpressure not exceed 2 psi. They do not want 2 psi exceeded as it may impair engine performance.

With FAE installed, the typical boat loses 1-1/2 to 2 mph of top end speed with a slight increase of exhaust back pressure at wide open throttle. Our testing has shown that FAE does not increase exhaust backpressure above 2 psi except at wide open throttle, at which time we typically see back pressure of 3 to 3-1/2 psi. We advise not running a boat at wide open throttle for more than a few moments, whether FAE is installed or not.

It is also important to note the similarities between FAE and Inboard/Outboard (I/O) boats. I/Os typically have the same V8 engine as inboard boats. On the I/O the engine has two exhaust pipes that join into one exhaust pipe and the exhaust exits underwater through the propeller. With FAE two exhaust pipes join into one exhaust pipe and the exhaust exits underwater behind the propeller.

Please note: it is not possible for us to test all possible boat/engine combinations. When you first install FAE be extra aware of your boat’s performance. If FAE does not meet your expectations, let us know.

                              Larry,

Is there enough interest to put together a "March" group buy?

                              Thx!
