advice - need some nautique feedback

i need some advice from people who maybe have gone through this before-- for better or for worst.

i think my wife and i have just struck a deal. she's given me permission to buy a reasonably priced 00,01,02 SAN tomorrow if the right deal comes along. only catch aside from the boat being worthy is the trailer it appears (garage has 84in header and has to fit), storage is not an option for us.

i've done some looking and can find an 01/02 SAN in my price range. it would get me into a new-to-me v-drive inboard for this season and our deal is it has to last me until the kids are all in school which is basically 5 years.

we're a family of 4, soon to be 5. we're not great wakeboarders, but have currently outgrown our wannabe i/o wakeboard boat and enjoy wakeboarding and watersports a great deal.

my goal up until recently (3rd kid on the way) has always been to own a mastercraft. the i/o was basically a "test" for my wife to make sure we enjoyed boating before we forked over a ton of money to buy our first boat. turns out we love it. we have friends who love it (they're a mixed breed of center console and i/o's though). with the 3rd kid on the way, it's hard to justify either tapping equity or having some ridiculous term on a loan only to still have a $450+ payment a month during winter in seattle.

so here i am. looking for advice. what do you think about me buying a used SAN, 00, 01, 02 maybe?

am i going to be upside down on a $35K 7 year old boat in 5 years with 10K down? assume i take perfect care of it and it's in good/great shape to begin with. am i going to be able to sell it?

never been much for waiting, but am not going to rush out and make some stupid decision either. i have a little boat now, and am at least getting out on the water and enjoying it. for a $100 more a month, i could potentially get into a 7 year old SAN though and that may be just worth it if it's not a dumb decision 5 years from now.

thanks for reading and please forgive the reference to MC above. don't want to turn this into a brand bashing thread. that's not what this is about. i'm asking an honest question that i'm sure many here can relate to.

    thanks again

With the price of gas I would think prices will fall. Not that I am a big fan of low balling but gas prices here in CA are making everyone think twice about that kind of purchase.

thanks for the reply. i'm not looking to lowball anybody either. i should be clear about that. my question i guess is, do you think i'll regret buying a 30K+ ~7 year old boat 5 years from now with a well over 20% down? will a 00-02 SAN or SANTE hold it's value enough for me to at least not lose a bunch of money in 5 years? think it will make a decent recreational family family wakeboard boat?

Honestly - yes. The resale on these boats has basically flat lined (in a good way - I mean that they depreciate unbelievably slowly.)

They are also built to laaaaaaaaaast.

Tougher to make a better choice. Resale is high on these and will remain high. All the way back to the 95 super sport hull-based boats.

The demand for the SAN is here to stay. Im my mind you cant find a better boat for the price. Then factor in the way correct craft builds them(I just sold an 83 still running like new) they will last several generations with good maintainance. I love my boat and its perfect for my family. Were are just 4, but there is always a tag along of some sort and we have tons of room with a world class wake.

the cheapest super sport (same as the airs you are looking at) I have seen has been in the 22000 range and it was well worn in the range of a 95-96ish. The price is pretty well set to the point if you put down 20% for a 35K boat and make payments for 5 years, I would find it really hard to believe the price demand will make your boat investment go upside down. I bought both my boats on the premise that fif I keep them up and keep hours reasonable, they will gereraly stay the same when I go to sell them. Both have been in the 15 years old range too, but the demand for both has not been what V drives are today and I still wont loose much on them.

Agree with all of the comments posted so far.

We are a family of 4 and have loved our 02 SAN from the start. As you already know, the quality is top notch and the brand is well known.

The resale value should stay steady unless all boats take a down turn.

              Hope that helps!
