i need some advice from people who maybe have gone through this before-- for better or for worst.
i think my wife and i have just struck a deal. she's given me permission to buy a reasonably priced 00,01,02 SAN tomorrow if the right deal comes along. only catch aside from the boat being worthy is the trailer it appears (garage has 84in header and has to fit), storage is not an option for us.
i've done some looking and can find an 01/02 SAN in my price range. it would get me into a new-to-me v-drive inboard for this season and our deal is it has to last me until the kids are all in school which is basically 5 years.
we're a family of 4, soon to be 5. we're not great wakeboarders, but have currently outgrown our wannabe i/o wakeboard boat and enjoy wakeboarding and watersports a great deal.
my goal up until recently (3rd kid on the way) has always been to own a mastercraft. the i/o was basically a "test" for my wife to make sure we enjoyed boating before we forked over a ton of money to buy our first boat. turns out we love it. we have friends who love it (they're a mixed breed of center console and i/o's though). with the 3rd kid on the way, it's hard to justify either tapping equity or having some ridiculous term on a loan only to still have a $450+ payment a month during winter in seattle.
so here i am. looking for advice. what do you think about me buying a used SAN, 00, 01, 02 maybe?
am i going to be upside down on a $35K 7 year old boat in 5 years with 10K down? assume i take perfect care of it and it's in good/great shape to begin with. am i going to be able to sell it?
never been much for waiting, but am not going to rush out and make some stupid decision either. i have a little boat now, and am at least getting out on the water and enjoying it. for a $100 more a month, i could potentially get into a 7 year old SAN though and that may be just worth it if it's not a dumb decision 5 years from now.
thanks for reading and please forgive the reference to MC above. don't want to turn this into a brand bashing thread. that's not what this is about. i'm asking an honest question that i'm sure many here can relate to.
thanks again
