1987 Fish Nautique: What do you think?

Ok, so here is the deal. I'm strongly considering purchasing a 1987 Fish Nautique. I know, I know, not a wake board boat, but my boy is 4 years old and just loves fishing. Mom will not let me get him behind the boat until he is older. So, I figure fishing for now and riding in a few years behind a 08 or newer 230.

Being a die hard CC guy, I figured this would be a way to stay with a boat I love and also be able to keep mom happy and fish with my boy.

What do you guys think she is worth.

100 original hours (and trust me, I know the old hour meter routine so I just have to take this on face value)

Wow, that boat looks nice. Usually, when they've been used for 20 years salt water fishing, they are pretty beat up. I would do a search on the For Sale Section at correctcraftfan.com. There have been probably a dozen for sale over the last couple of years, so you might get an idea of what others have been asking. BKH

1987 Fish Nautique: What do you think?

Word is, boat has never been in salt water but a few times. Ran on fresh water lake in Utah. Looks like a freakin time capsule to me.

As for Mom getting over it, I'm not going there. I grew up on the water fishing, footin' riding, etc. (learned to ski when I was three on the old Cypress Gardens trainers and was doing deep ups footin' at 9) but Mom just wasn't exposed to that stuff growing up. A bit of a fear factor for her. However, she's all ready to send the kid down a mountain at Beaver Creek. Go figure...

Anyway, thanks for the comments on the F.N. Your guys' reactions are the same as mine. Boat is awesome and a classic piece from the folks at C.C.

That boat should be worth 18 to 20 K if is as good as the photos show. I assume engine looks good. You could also look up some some similar Mako, Wellcraft, Grady-White, Shamrock, etc of similar age as a comparison. Of any brand....I don't think you'll find one that clean.

Finally, put a nice swim platform on it, install a hidden ballast bag near the stern....and let junior surf behind on the way back to the dock. That boat probably puts out a big wake....and Mom will never know.

Airtool, I'm one step ahead of you. I figure we'll dial in the tandem wakesurfing trick on the ol' landlocked and "surprise" mom one day.

The hull puts out pretty much the same wake as the old direct drive Barefoot Nautique made up to 1989 before they went V - DRIVE and then discontinued.

So, the surf wake should be pretty good. Anyone know anything about how effective those wedge things work that the advertisements say work as good as a jillion gallon ballast system. They sell these things now for pretty much any boat.

Airtool: As for swim platform. It already has the stock old school teak platform.

Just judging from those pictures, that is one of the cleanest Fish Nautiques I've seen in a while. I'd buy it.

That is one of the nicest CC Fish I ever seen! How much are they asking if you don't mind to tell it? I expect it could easy go to the 10k... What kind of engine is in it?

                      Good luck with it!

                        My new 1987 Fish Nautique

I just finalized the terms on getting my "new" Fish Nautique here.

If the boat checks out with the service dept of the correct craft dealer, it will be on its way to its new home to be used on the St. Johns River.

I know, its not a new pimped out 230 or 220, but my little guy will love the fishing and I will at least get to wake surf some.

I'll post pics of her running when I get her here.

By the way, I'm full on expecting this thing to be a dog as far as power. Its the 351 pre pro boss (only 240hp) Does anyone have a line on where I can locate a python to throw in this girl. I see on PCM's web site you can by what appears to be the old python in their crusader line. Any thoughts? :?:
