i recently bought a a 1987 ski nautique, shes a beauty. taking it out shes purs like a kitten, except for when i switch from forward to reverse, talking with friends of mine who have ridden on the boat. They have gotten into debates about what would help the hard shifts, one of my friends has mentioned to change my automatic tranmission oil over to gear oil he sais it will hold up to higher friction, and heat. while the other side says you are crazy and to stick with what i got. I was wondering and this might be a matter of opinion what might be the best idea without taking apart my transmission to help fix my problem.

RE: changing all fluids on a 1987 ski nautique with a 351 co
I would suggest calling fantastic finish marine. They are boat tranny experts and might be able to help you out.

Eric (of Fantastic Finish Marine) will recommend conventional Dexron/Mercon ATF. He prefers Valvoline, so thats what I run. He's definitely the tranny expert to talk to- hes a regular on CCFan.1990 Ski Nautique
