Need Help with Lousy Upholstery Job

Okay, so my family has a 1999 Air Nautique and we just had it re-upholstered. The seats were all ripped at the seams and it looked horrible and it was uncomfortable to sit in because the ripped seats poked you in the butt. We asked around a bit and found this guy who had worked on several boats on the lake and everyone was so psyched on how great a job he did.

Anyway, I went to pick it up from the shop yesterday and although it didn't look exactly like it did from the factory, I'm pretty sure it never will and it looks a whole lot better now than it did before. Then, I noticed that the cushions in the bow were way too small and there's a 2" gap between each cushion where there was never one before.

Long story short, I argued with the guy for an hour straight and we went back and forth with him saying that the cushions were supposed to be like that and me saying that he had no idea what he was talking about. Finally, he said to me that if I can get a picture of a boat like mine and prove to him that there isn't supposed to be a 2" gap between the cushions, he'll re-do it.

So, my point is, if any of you guys have a boat like mine ('99 Air or Sport Nautique) and can either send me or post some pictures of the bow, I would be really really grateful. I can't find a good one online and this clown is telling me that the cushions aren't supposed to butt up against each other and that they're not supposed to slide up under that overhang in the bow. I've seriously never been so mad in my life. If any of you guys could help it would be really great. My email is telepromptedanthems @ gmail.com. Thanks...

call the factory or call a dealer and tell them the issue. they should be able to talk to him or send you the correct info to get this clown in line. everytime i try to fix something or upgrade it it ends up being done hastily and improperly. outsourcing is why hardly anybody has any pride in his work these days. to me if you do a bad job or incorrect job you should drop everything to rectify the situation and if you cannot you should reimburse your the customer. good luck

That's the problem, this guy really thinks that he did a good job and he says that it's ME who's trying to screw HIM. I'm having trouble wrapping my head around the whole situation.

Hlymons, that would be awesome! Thanks so much...

This is not the best picture but the gap between the cushions sure doesn't look like two inches.

Without seeing a photo of what you have, it is difficult to understand. I will say that on my 2001, the cushions certainly could be pushed apart a couple of inches. In fact, you need som play in order to easily remove them. The blocks which are attached to the back of the cushions, and hold the cushions in place on the fiberglass structure are fitted with some play in them. They are not up tight against the fiberglass. Somtimes passengers will shove the triangular nose piece up under the deck, and I have to pull it back into place. BKH

Here's a few pics that I pulled off of Boat Trader for times sake. Hopefully these will help; the 3 boats consist of a 1999 Sport, 2000 Air, and 2000 Super Air.

I have a 99 Sport/Air Nautique and the bow looks just like those boattrader photos posted above. Without photos of your upholstery job its hard to tell what your describing....did he use your original bases and cushions?

I will say that I have to wedge the front cushion under the lip and sometimes pound a time or two on the others to squeeze them in...its a tight fit for sure.
