What battery Group size fits the (year)2001 SN 196?

Folks,

I bought a 2001 SN196 that has a very small (non-standard) battery installed in the battery box. This battery is bad, so I want to replace it with the largest battery possible which will fit into the battery hole. I measured the box to be around 11"W, X 7 3/4"H X 6 1/2" wide. I have seen other posts that indicate a 65M batery Group, but the 65XX Group sizes seem to me to be too large for the battery and the power cables to fit (and have the battery compartment cover fit back into place).

Any thougts out there on this topic?

I use a size 24. If you are just starting the boat any size 24 will do If you have a lare stereo and alot of toys GPS Etc. I would go with an Optima Gel cell

I use a group 65 in my '90. It fits the box perfectly and seems to be the same size as the original battery in my dad's '03 196.

IIRC the underside of the battery box cover on my 2000 says the group number right there.

I checked the bottom of the battery box cover and it does say "Group 48" or "can be replaced with Group 41". Looks like maybe Group 24, 48, 41 and 65 all may fit here.

Group 34m will fit as well if you need a marine battery with the extra posts. Optima blue top fit in mine well.
