Used ski boat market - where is it??

I'll be darned, I've listed my boat in all kinds of different places consistently for months,, lowered the price a number of times, changed photos, etc. and I can't seem to get any response!? I'm asking 10k CAD now for a 1990 ski 19.6 good shape, open to viewing/testing, etc.

I don't know about Canada, but here in California, there are a tremendous number of boats for sale right now. Between cost of gas, unemployment, etc. a lot of folks can't afford to keep or use the boats (In my opinion if that's the case, then you couldn't afford the boat in the first place, but that's another story). I've seen a lot of boats advertised that should be worth 10-12K listed for 6-8K. I think right now, it's a better time to be buying than selling. My $.02. BKH

I'm not selling a boat right now, but the weak US dollar can't be helping your quest to sell. It works against you both ways. I agree with bk, it's currently buyers market.

Sold my 2005 SV211 Team within 2 weeks of it being on the market this month.

I recommend using onlyinboards.com or boattrader.com. These are not too expensive and get a lot of exposure. In March this year, I sold my 96 Ski Nautique out of state in less than a week using these websites, and I got my asking price! The guys who are having a hard time selling are probably overpriced or live too far away. Check your book values and the phones will start ringing, casue people who are worried about the economy right now shouldn't be buying a boat anyway.[/u]

Same here. My Mobius has been for sale for weeks and not a single call. I only advertised in the local market (Quebec), but I'm still surprised by the lack of responses.

In my view, a few other factors have played on the used market.

- less than four years ago, there weren't nearly as any inboard boats on the market as there are today. Many people have bought WB boats in the last few years so the market got flooded

- there is an impression here that you can go buy your boat in the US and get a better deal, esp since our dollar is much stronger.

- Price of everything has gone up, and Cabadians are bracing for bad economic times (although things are going well right now), so we are maybe easing off on big ticket items

- Cheap financing on new boats I guess, whereas personal credit for a used boat migh be more difficult to obtain now that everyone has used their Home Mortgage line of credit to the maximum.
