    RE: Trailor Weight

Single axle trailers are typically about 1000 lbs. Tandems are typically in the 1500 lb range.
I think you are underestimating the weight of gear. A cooler full of drinks and ice can weigh
100lbs. Not to mention, clothes, towels, vests, ropes, anchors, skis, boards, tools, stereo equipment, extra board racks, extra batteries, etc.

        RE: Trailor Weight

Stop guessing and just go weigh it. I did for title purpose and it was very interesting. The scales are for big rigs and divided up to weigh axles.

        Here is a link http://www.catscale.com/

It cost me $10 for the first weigh and $5 for each extra there after. Go at night during the week when the stop isn't busy so you can fiddle around with it.

Spread it out across the different scale segments like this.

        1) truck front, truck rear, boat axle
        2) truck front, truck rear
        3) boat jack, boat axle
        4) if you can, take some blocks and block right under the hitch and get hitch weight, axle weight without the truck. It takes math and several data points to get hitch weight otherwise.

You will be surprised how much your truck front axle lightens up when you put 500 pounds on the hitch. Also, truck rear axle weight goes up by MORE than the hitch weight because of the moment.

My 2995 lb 206 weighed 3950 on the single axle and about 500 on the hitch with a full tank of gas and ABSOLUTELY NO GEAR....not even a bottle of water or dock line. That means 1500 pounds including 26? gallons of gas.

Doesn't make sense. A 2008 F150 with only 6200 lb capacity? My 2005 has a capacity of 9200 lbs (same setup). You have an extra 800 lbs of boat, but mine handles my 211 just fine.

Good question...they heavier the truck, the less towing capacity for the same engine, transmission, rear end, and springs. Most people doen't realize that.

One recommendation I have ....turn off the overdrive on the highway.

Yes: Crew Cab, 4X4. 3.73 gear ratio, and 5.4 engine. And I don't use overdrive when I pull my boat. It's not for towing capacity, it's to save the transmission.

Crew Cab and 4x4 hurt your towing capacity, so anything else just makes it better.

okay, here's a correction to my setup (I checked the window sticker of my truck), but not to my point. I have a 3.55 rear end, so my towing capacity is only 8200 lbs. But the 2005 with the 3.73 rear end does have a towing capacity of 9200 lbs. Here is a copy of the brochure specs from 2005 (sorry for the quality):
