    236/230 prop...

    1433 (14.0 x 14.25, .105 cup)
    vs
    1235 (14.5 x 14.25, .105 cup)

i see both have been used as power props. the way i understand it, the larger diameter of the 1235 will should keep the engine from spinning as high and keep it out of the rev limiter (or am i mistaken) which is recommended?

    what about the 1273 (14.5 x 14.25, .150 cup)?

    RE: 236/230 prop...

I have the 1235 and love it. I think the 1235 is a good all around prop mine tops out at 43-44. I have yet to hit the limiter on the 230.

On my 00 San I had a 14x16, it was a ROCKET out of the hole. But it would only do 35 on the limiter.

i have the 1234 on my 06 220...just wondering what my options are.

what does more/less cup do? also considering the OJ XMP Edge

      488-14.25 x 14 (.090 cup)
      490-14.25 x 14 (.120 cup)

        did some light reading at

        http://www.solarnavigator.net/propellers.htm

answers the questions i knew i had and some i didnt know that i had.

diameter--too much is bad because it causes increased drag and load on your engine.

cup--provides bite and reduces slippage. can actually increase speed while also reducing rpm.

on my 220, i had the acme 1234. when running at wakeboarding speeds, the prop had a tendency to make the boat run like it was heavy on the port side. i suspect this was due to the drag from huge diameter. holeshot and speed holding were fine.

from purely theoretical standpoint, the OJ 490 seems like it may be a better option--smaller diameter means less drag, while the increased cup mean increased bite and decreased rpms...hmmmm

took the first run with my OJ 475 (14.25 x 14.5 x .090 cup) today. the acceleration is undeniably smooth and powerful. i know it is not apples to apple, but it feels smoother than the 1234 i have on my 220. again, no apples to apples, but the running rpm at 24mph was 3200rpm on the 230/OJ vs 3600 rpm on the 220/ACME comobo. additional benefit is that the wake seems cleaner everywhere from the face to the lip to the middle in between both wakes. conclusion: daddy likey OJ more than the ACME....
