I use a Greenfield coated navy anchor, 28lb iirc, and have had very good results with it. I have about 5' of chain and lots of rope. I usually try for 4/1 or 5/1 scope, depending on where I'm anchored.

I use a large Box Anchor and a then Slide Anchor for my shoreline. I had the medium Box when I had my 210 and it worked well, but moving up to the 230 and having an extra 1000 lbs of boat made me want to be safer than sorry. I don't think you can have too much anchor...unless you don't have space for it.
Like others have mentioned, chain is a necessity. Anywhere from 6'-10' will do you well.
Like TX-Foilhead mentioned, the ratio for rope length to depth of water is 3:1, but the more you increase that, the more holding ability you will have. I have a 75' rope in 15' of water. To this day, my anchor has yet to move (knock on wood). Also, the current of the river we spend all of our time on can be very swift, up to ~8mph, and the boat traffic can be ridiculous so there are substantial wakes bouncing the boat around and pulling on that anchor line. Between the chain, length of rope and anchor, we're good to go.
Different anchors work well in different applications. Through my experience, a Box Anchor is good for most applications. It may be an expensive anchor, but it's a whole lot less expensive that having it break free and play bumper boats with the other boats tied up around you or end up on shore giving the gel coat a sand-blasting.
Oh, one more thing...Slide Anchor, who is the manufacturer of the Box Anchor as well, gives a LIFETIME warranty on their products. I've replaced two Slide Anchors, no questions asked.BKinSoCal - Brian

I'll agree with the box anchor endorsements. Pricey--but worth it in my opinion. Just throw it, tie it off and forget about it....

I agree whole-heartedly regarding the box anchor. Although I do keep 6' of nylon dipped chain attached to it, I was under the impression that chain was not needed for use with a box anchor. I have no idea where I heard this, and I am too lazy to take the chain off of mine at this point. Anyone else hear that no chain needed?Eric, Phoenix AZ

I have the small box anchor and it worked great. It is their web site:
Making the Box Anchor easier to handle, it requires no chain and only a 2 to 1 scope; that’s twice the depth of the water and half the amount of line required for a traditional anchor.

Slide Anchor says the Box Anchor needs no chain. My guess is the long pIece that the rope connects to functions the same as a chain would and allows enough movement. Like some others I do run chain on mine, I had it on there already so I figured it couldn't hurt.

Typical stop is at the dune on Columbia River across from the Gorge Amphitheater where I use a 3 blade coated river anchor (15 lb. I think), Anchor Buddy and Sand Spike.
For stops in the lake I also carry 125' of 5/8" anchor rode.2010 Super Air Nautique 210 Team Edition
