    What would you do?

I am in a situation where I am a bit out of thoughts. Here is the delema.

I bought my 93 sport last year in 1/2 way rough shape and I worked my butt off over the winter to make it what it is today and now it is nearly mint. A solid 9 I would say. I like my boat and it works great, runs awesome, just put a New Dimension tower on it. I use it primarily for wakeboarding. I put anout 20 hours on it since I bought it last fall for a total of 435 hours.

Now, a boat has come up that is nagging me. I went to look at it and it is a 95 ss with the efi GT40 with about 550 hours. The boat is in need of some hull love and interior is ok, the seats are good and upolstry is good but it has some stains and some sloppy installs on equipment that need to be addressed. The one major kicker is that it has a first gen FCT on it and that will not fit in my garage since it wont fold. Beyond that it is ugly too and the board racks are not usable due to pieces not being there to function. The boat also had some previous hull fractures that was addressed by CC in 2000 by supplying a new hull for the boat with all equipment transfered and the addition on the force fed (not pump fed I guess, I dont know about that style if anyone knows, please, fill me in) hard ballast tanks in the trunk. The boat price is 24K.

I dont want to take on 2 boat payments but I think this particular rig may be worth it, but would like some advice. I want a V drive but am wondering if this is as good as I hope it is minus the tower or should I wait for a newer SAN in a few years when mine is paid off (san being a pre 2002). I guess I am looking for advice on worth or ability to sell my boat somewhat quickly or this year even.

    Help a brother out

    RE: What would you do?

To be honest, $24K sounds like it may be a bit high for a 95 SS in that condition. I would hold onto the Sport since you have it dialed-in and save up a few bucks to at least get into a 2000+ Super Air with the 2nd gen FCT. Right now you can find those around $30K and up, so you're not too far off at $24K.

We bought our 98 SS with 175 hrs for 20.4K. I'd keep looking.

I bought my 01' SAN Feb of 07' with 270 hrs. for 25K from Greg Norman. I drove from Cincinnati to Miami to get it and the interior and hull were in rough shape. (Rear sundeck especially) I have put some TLC into her basically just some elbow grease. The hull was extremely faded. I put a rockin stereo and a few new skins and get alot of compliments. I have less than 30K in the boat and it is worth at least that. Basically all im tryin to say is I would pass on this one it seems a bit high and there are always deals out there.

Now is probably the worst time to look. People know everyone wants a boat its the prime time of the season. Look in Sept. Oct. Nov. when people dont want to have to winterize it again and just want to unload it. I lucked out on mine. I had to drive 1000 miles each way and blow out a tire on the single axle trailer but it was worh it. Keep yours for now a deal will come when you least expect it.

Put your boat for sale for top dollar....and keep your eyes open for the right boat.....sell yours.....THEN... look for a new boat.....I drove from Van BC to Denver to buy my last boat. **** of a road trip!! Take your time....sell your boat....get what you really want....but by all means...try not to help the finance company's out.

Ordinarily, I'd agree. But, right now, it looks to me like the economy is kicking peoples' butts. I've seen a ton of unusually good deals out there. On boats only a a few years old, folks are still asking what they did last year (probably because most are financed over 15 or 20 years and the "owners" still owe a fortune) but for boats over 5 years old, there are some really smoking deals out there.

Ya he traded it to a MC dealer in Miami for a new 100k Salt water MC. We went to pick it up and saw Greg Norman on the title and they said it was the one and only Shark. The boat was primarily used in his personal 65 acre lake in his back yard.

Believe it or not that is pretty on par price wise in texas. Buxton has one for 23k that is a 95 SS with just a tower on a tandem trailer. It has like 700 hours on it and no ballast. The biggest thing for the older boats to me is the color selection. Alot of the older boats have a bad color combo that turns me off most of the time so if this is a good color combo and is in good shape then make an offer. I think you would be able to sell your boat alot faster now because it has a tower and is in good shape. The tower makes a boat alot more appealing in my eyes(if its a ND or FCT). I was worried about selling my boat in november of last year and it went alot faster than I thought it would. You will definately not regret the v-drive as I am kicking myself for not doing it sooner. I absolutely love my boat and would not trade it for the world.

Geez, that's a lot of money for a 95 in that condition. That 99 posted just above is a nice deal, though.
