    **** all of you ....

For making me fall in love with the 210.

Now my plans to purchase a Nautique have to be pushed back because I REALLY wanna pay cash for it. And it's kind of tough to save that kinda dough in this day and age.

The '04 210 has got stuck in my stoopid head and I cant stop thinking about it. What do you do for that problem?

Why would you want to pay cash for such an expensive item?

Put a nice down payment and get a good interest rate and pay for it as you use it.

I pay cash for toys, keeps our wants and needs in check. But I would consider with a nice down payment financing a used boat purchase for a term of 4 or 5 years at the most. We did it with our first MC, and paid it off in 2 years. It was well worth the small cost of the loan for the amount of enjoyment we recieved. One other note, the cost of borrowing money for late model boats is pretty cheap, especially with good credit and a good realtionship with your local credit union or bank.

Well I had origonally set my mind to getting a 1993 Ski Nautique for the benefits of wood-free construction, GT 40, and the ability to save $10K and pay cash for the boat outright. It seems very do-able, even with my meager income.

The good news is the boat seems very affordable. The bad news is it won't likely throw a decent (knee high, firm and rampy) wake for boarding.

Given that my 9 yr old son snow boards very well and loves it and my 6 yr old daughter downhill skis and loves that ..... Im not sure whos going to be inclined to do what on the water. More to the point, Im sure my son will wake board. Im not sure my daughter will board, she might opt for skiing.

Rather than get one boat and find it doesnt do what I expect, sell it and get a newer one .... should I just wait and pony up the dough for the 210 ??

          Thoughts ??

Won't get a GT 40 in a 93. GT 40 began in 95 I believe. With some weight, that boat will throw a knee high wake. 210 will not be a good boat for skiing, particularly for little ones.

My personal thought - buy what you can afford now. Look for a good deal so you can get all or most of your money out of it. You'll get a feel for what you do and don't like in a boat. You'll also be out on the water instead of just reading about boats. While you're enjoying yourself, you can save a bit so you have the cash available when you sell and buy a more expensive boat.

If you don't do it now, your kids, and you, will be another year older when you finally do.

We could argue about this cash versus borrow all day long and no one would win. The are many positives to borrowing for capital expendatures when done properly at good rates. A loan is just a small part of the big financial picture.

Nevertheless, I'm with BKH. ....do something now. Don't wait it out.

My suggestion would be to find a SNOB or 206 with tower so you can ski and board. The kids will think it is a world class boat. There are great deals right now on direct drive boats. I stole my Air 206 TE and we love it. The boy is 7 and the girl is 6.

I have a 1993 SN and with 350 lbs on each side of motor in the form of phat sacks and one in the back, it does for sure throw a knee high wake. then when you want to go skiing, drain the sacks and you get a decent wake at 34/36 mph. I have a tower on my boat as well, which is good for boarding and footing.

Tourpro, pm me with your top dollar you want to spend, i had the rock bottom prices on about 15 different 210's (03-06) across the country a few months back. Even though i chose to buy a new boat, i know that some of these boats are still for sale. There are a lot of good deals out there, and i think you should pony up and get a wakeboard boat, your son will love you that much more.

You might also consider a sport nautique, there were several very affordable ones listed on here. Great boat for all around water fun.

Tourpro I feel your pain. I always wanted a super 210 also. My father in law got one in 2000 and I wanted one sooooo bad. At the time I had a 83 2001 that was paid for and had agreed with the wife that all toys should be paid for with cash. It took me 8 years to find the right deal and boat that fit the bill. I dont have a factory super air, but what I have done with my boat is I feel better. Plus its paid for and exactly like I want it. Consider getting a super sport too keep cost a little lower and then customize.......

Ski and wakeboard off the back of a 216 and you will really have your head spinning.

Tourpro...I knew you would come around. I think you would be much better off with a newer boat already equipped with the essentials....especially if you are going to keep it a while.

Unless you have had major financial problems in the past, you should be able to get a nice interest rate on a boat loan. I got 6.75 last year for a used boat. Put the cash you have down so you are only borrowing what you are missing. Banks love that. If it doesn't affect the rate much, chose a longer term to get you a lower required payment....just in case you have an off month. But then make a higher payment that pays it down at a pace you like. Set up an auto debit from your paycheck so it is all automatic. If you are worried about payment continuation, save back a few payments from the down payment and put it in a separate safe account at a DIFFERENT banking institution and forget about it. That gives you some cushion.

Then....work hard at work and play hard at home. Enjoy life and let the people following too close see something like the picture below. The only heads you won't turn are the ones behind you.

This guy in Friendswood has been trying to sell a nice 216 for a year. He is asking way too much in my opinion. If you are interested in traveling for it, give him a call. I drove 1050 miles each way for mine. Only obvious thing it is missing is PP which you could install PP or the new GPS version. The boat still shows on this link.
