Hello - new guy here. I just checked out and made an offer on a 2000 SAN. This will be my first V-Drive, upgrading from a 1986 Malibu Skier. My question is about setting up the ballast on this thing for boarding, and also for surfing. With just the stock tanks in the rear full, it was a massive wake (compared to what I was used to of course). Due to knee surgery, I couldn't actually ride it to see what it actually felt like however. What I want to know is if the boat needs a belly bag in the locker - what size, and if it needs a bow sack - again what size. Then, what would be a good starting point to set it up for surfing? Thanks in advance for any help - and I look forward to spending long days at work with a window open to this site

Be cautious when using a 2000 & 01 SAN for wake surfing. It is very easy for water to wash over the back of the boat when you drop off the throttle. Due the slope of the boats transom it is easy for water to migrate underneath the sundeck into the engine bay. It was very common for the perfect pass servo bearings to seize on this model - the servo is located in a position where it can easily get wet.

I dont have the factory ballast but have the same hull. I use a 400lb bag in each compartment in the back and a 650 in the ski locker. That is with 5-6 riders. If I only have 2-3 riders I will put another 400 in the nose. I have had the 400 in the nose with 6 riders and it is huge. I usually have a variety of skill levels in my boat so I dont always want it huge.
