Best choice to buy in 216 Air Nautiques

It looks as though I am about to sell my current Sport Nautique. I now have a dilemma. Dealer has a brand new 2007 216 team Edition I can buy or a used (Demo) 2008 216 Team with the ZR engine & stereo upgrade. The only downside to the 2008 boat is it has 325 hours. The boat looks great. I can buy either boat for about the same money. This will be Nautique #4 for me.

Which would be the better investment? I may need a 210 in the next 2-3 years. I still love to ski & am not ready to give up slalom, but I have an up & coming teen who loves to wakeboard. He might outgrow the 216 soon.

Not sure of the ability of your teen but my kids outgrew our 206 in no time. I did not load the floor area with fat sacs (6 passenger seating reasons)so the boat would not make much of a wake.

I have a new used 210 for sale..... No need to get a zr in the 216. not changes in the 07 and 08 216 other then the back seat.

Guys, maybe you misunderstand. I don't want anything but the 216 right now. Competive slalom training would not be practical behind a 210. I looked at the SV211 & tried to make that boat work, but I hated the ski wake.


What I am asking is which is the better deal between the 216's:::: An 08 with 300 hours with a couple thousand dollars in upgrades (zr engine & stereo) or a brand new 07?? I can buy the boats for about the same money.

I am just looking at a 300hr boat as 3 years old in use in my mind (but the title is for an 08) & a brand new 07 as basically 2 years old once I take title to it.

I am just wondering which one will be worth the most in 1 or 2 years or even 3 years.

My gut feel is to go for the new 07 and forget the upgrades...do you really need them?

Some contradicting bullets to help?

*325 hours is nothing for the engine. Did they do all the service?

*325 hours of newbies climbing in and out could be a lot of wear and tear on the interior etc....how does it look?

*Will you be the first to title the 08 and get ALL OF THE WARRANTY WITHOUT TRANSFER CONDITIONS AND FEES? When will the OFFICIAL "in-service" date be?

*There might be an hour limit on the PCM warranty (1000?)....double check that in the book or on their website.

*How many hours (clock plus wear and tear) will you put on the boat. If you are only going to put 20 hours per year, maybe go for the 08. Maybe you should make a plot of value vs year and "predict" the depreciation as a function of year and hours based on a similar models over the last three years and see how they compare.

*Either way...pick one and beat the dealer up for the best deal and head to the lake.

That is what I am looking for. I only put about 50 hr per year. The 08 boat is a demo & is in pristine condition. But I will ask your questions to the dealer. They are valid points.

Heliskier - another thing to consider: are you skiing on a private lake? how long is the lake? do you need the extra horsepower to get the boat up to speed faster? I doubt you do because the 216 is not a heavy boat anyway. I am on a private lake and my next boat will definitely be a ZR6 (but I'm a wakeboarder, and I want the extra power to get the boat to speed faster when weighted - the 856 prop I have now helps a lot, but I always want more).

That's ok. Just does not seem to be a lot of market for 216's anymore. I have been bombarded by requests for my Sport, but the 216's don't seem to move nearly as well.

Skiers seem to be a rare item these days, seems everyone around is looking to the Air Boats. I would go without the zr6 in the 216 case, less hours to start and unless you are a monster you are not going to need the extra few HP.
