where in Florida is the boat? I am in central Fl and would be willing to take a look - BTW just because it is in FL does not mean salt water. The galv trailer is a good idea because all the painted ones will rust at some point fresh or salt.
Okay guys, I need your insight. I have an offer on this 00 Air Nautique and want to have it checked out. But being my first inboard, what do I ask for to have looked at? I'd be willing to pay someone that knows what to look for/at if they are in the area.
Just took a look at the boat. I may be too late as the dealer said that you had an offer that they took.
First, the boat has been used in salt water a lot. The trailer is galvanized and has a lot of rust on it. It is a tandem axle, but both axles will need to be replaced: now. I would not tow this boat further than a trailer repair shop. I didn't bother checking the brakes and the tires have tread but will need replacing soon.
The boat looks good from a distance. There was heavy oxidation on the gel coat which has mostly been buffed out. You can see a couple of areas that were missed. The interior is probably original and in average shape. There is sticthing missing in all of the seats. The boat was not 'cleaned' and the carpets didn't look that great. There is rust on the engine, but compression is around 150 on all cylinders. The dealer had a list of items that did not work. The guages are digital and I didn't test/check them. I has a 4 bladed prop in good condition.
Overall, unless I got a killer deal, I would keep looking. I believe that you will need to invest a couple thousand in the trailer. I wouldn't be surprised if you need new manifolds and risers soon.
As compared to my 99 MC that I sold last year, this boat is in less than average condition. For an 8 year old boat, it is in average condition with the trailer at much less than average.
That was very nice of you. Hat's off to MP220. Like I said earlier, you should alway look at the boat. Very difficult to take the word of the seller or someone that doesn't know what to look for. Again, way to go MP220.
