    Towing a Parasail w/ Nautique?

Just curious if anyone here has successfully pulled a parasail with a Nautique. We have a 2006 Air Nautique 216 and are thinking about towing a parasail. Will the lift of the parasail be too much for the tow hook / boat to handle?

Please share some of your experiences with this!

    Thanks,
    Mike

If you're worried about the pressure from the pull use the lifting ring. Those are designed to hold the entire weight of the boat. However, they are designed to do that when lifted straight up. The boat can certainly handle it. We've pulled the kite tubes and the new wakeboard kites from the tower and pylon. It seemed to handle those pressures and forces just like normal.

Yes I was definitely going to use the lifting ring.. since with our pylon there is really no way to secure the line if it is extended above the boat. I read on one post here where a parasail lifted the prop out of the water...

I guess I just want to make sure the boat and lift hook are ok to tow upwards of 12,000lbs. (according to http://www.ehow.com/how_8987_outfit-...rasailing.html)

And of course if anyone has any stories/experiences share away

      Mike

It says right on the boat not to hook kites and stuff up. Don't know if you're looking for practicality or legally, but I'd check the books before I invalidated any warranties.

And I'd be worried about hooking 12,000 lbs to my boat. the lifting rings are designed to lift the boat straight up (3500 lbs / 2 rings = 1750 lbs *5 safety factor = 8750 lbs)

We used to pull our parachute with an 81SN, from the pylon. Only did it 15-20 times and never had any problems. I dont know how much force we were pulling around lbs-wise. Now older and a little wiser...might not do it.

I am not sure if 12,000lbs is accurate on that website.. maybe on a larger parasail with multiple people that is possible. My friend claims there will be a max of 1000lbs on the hook with 1 person... I just wish I could find more resources on how to calculate this.

The boat weighs approx 3000 lbs, and the added thrust from propulsion......
I have no idea what the actuall load rating is for the lift ring.
That might be something to think about.

Don't use the lifting ring, you won't be able to steer if a wind gust comes up. Use the center pylon. It is against all CC rules, voids warranties, etc. Make sure the pylon is tight. Do not tow it from the tower if it has one.

                      yup

Yeah, we used to do this all the time from the pylon. Proceed at your own risk though...

I just got back from vacation at Lake George, NY

I noticed there's a parasail company there that exclusively tows with 1980's barefoor nautiques from the center pylon.

They've been doing it forever, apparently it works...

                          ^^ I'm sure it works...but it's also less frustrating to flip over a 1980 than a 2000+ SANTE.

                            Just-in-time,

"easily flip over" - I doubt it.

Possible yes, anything is possible. I am sure you can find an example of it, just as you can find examples of people getting hit by lightning. We used to have a parasail and towed it from the center pylon.

Just curious, do you have the experience towing a parasail behind your own boat or are you speaking hear-say?

Just like anything else, you need to use common sense, don't do on windy days, don't get the flier too high, don't drive close to shore/other boats, etc.

I actually got rid of mine once I got old enough to understand the liability I was exposing myself to.
