the weirdest thing?

I'm 22. there's a 1960 chris craft at my marina and I get sweaty everytime I cruise next to him...

you're not alone...we were up at Garwoods at Lake Tahoe llast week and walked around while they were setting up the "Woody" show.... the boats are very cool.

I love those old wooden boats. My grandfather had a 1967 wooden Trojan cruiser, and that boat was great. I keep saying that one of these years I'll get one. Maybe someday it will really happen.

I grew up on a old chris craft sport with a 350 - for footing. The one thing I remember the most is working on it all the way through the winter. First you remove all the trim, sand the entire boat, fix bad wood, varnish, paint, stripe, fix everything that goes along with having a 60 year old boat, and swell the wood by putting wet sand bags on the hull so that it would float first run. in all about 100 hrs of hard work.
Don't get me wrong, I loved it. But be aware.

there's just one thing I don't understand..the wet sand bags?

The wet sand bags go in the interior, where the wood isn't sealed. The sand holds the moisture, which the wood wicks out, causing the wood to swell together, making it watertight, rather than put it in the water, let the water seep through the cracks, bilge out the extra as you go.... Old trick.
By the way, on my way back from florida I saw the awesomest old wood boat and I have no idea what it is. I got some pics driving by it on the highway (along with a "are you serious?" from the wife when I told her to slow down.) I'll post them up here and we'll see who can name the make and model. It was SOOPER SWEET... gorgeous boat.
