ACME 470 or 1442 - help with final decision

Hi folks, need help for final selection.

Read the reviews and opinions on here and have narrowed my choice down to the ACME 1442 and ACME 470. There are countless comparisons between the 422 and 470 however information is limited for the 1442. Has anyone tested a 1442 or own one? Bill Weeks told me the 1442 might be a tad better for holeshot and fuel economy for my application, but would like your input. Here are my boat stats:

    1990 SN
    240 hp 351
    1.23 tran
    Top RPM ~4400
Top Speed 42-43 MPH @4400 RPM
Use is purely slalom and cruising.
Holeshot, wake, smoothness of operation are more important than topspeed.

Last question...anyone have a SKIDIM order delivered to Canada?

    Thanks in advance

I also searched around to see just for myself the difference in the props, and your right, the 1442 seems to have no info on here. I can only contribute littlel bit of info, and that is 4 blade props seem to ski better on Nautiques then 3 blades from my limited experience with them, and from what I have read on here. Will the 422 not work for you boat? That seems to be the prop of choice for most all ski nautiques. The other think I am sure of is more rpm at the same speed equals a stiffer pull. IE, if your current prop at 34.2 mph is 3400 rpm and the new prop is 3550 rpm then you will feel it when you ski, like your being pulled narrow at the ball. The SN usually has a pretty soft pull and that is one thing everyone enjoys about the brand.

So I guess my question is why not try the 422?

I think you'll be happier with the 470 with the 240hp motor, but you really cant go wrong either way. The 470 will turn a few more RPM's than the 1442, but that helps the holeshot. Theyre both great props. Ive skied them all (470, cupped 470, 612, 422, 1442) and couldnt really tell a difference in the wake or pull. But Im not that picky either.

You didnt mention- what prop are you using to get those speed/RPM numbers? Stock 3-blade 14x16 Federal? When you say that top speed is not important, I assume you dont barefoot? When I was at 240hp, my '90 had very marginal top speed for 1-footers (41mph), and that was with the 470- which would be the fastest of the bunch.

Stock is a pitch 16. When you lower the pitch the revs will go up substantial.
        I had a 1990 SN, no ProBoss.
We used a pitch 12,5 ACME prop, because of a lot of lead ballast and most of the time 4 people on board, the pitch 12,5 gave use the original holeshot when the boat was loaded.
It did 900 rpms more at 22mph.
Also stay with the 16 or 15,5 pitch, 4 blade when you wakeboard or ski and 3 blade when you foot.

Thanks for the replies. I don't foot and I have no plans of modding the motor - will probably buy a used TSC3 in the next 5 years. I have the stock federal 14x16.

Anyone in Canada order from SKIDIM?

              Thanks everyone
After all the f@rting around I have purchased a new 422 from XLAIR. He should be shipping it tomorrow and I will try it next week when on holidays so I will report back. I have a Garmin GPS so I should be able to report some accurate speeds with both my federal and the new 422.

Well some excellent news! My 1990 SN was turning 4400 RPM at 42.5 mph with the stock federal. I put the ACME 422 on and it turns 4600 to 4650 according to the analog tach and the top speed increased to 44.7 mph. The ACME was so smooth I was blown away, didn't realize how bad the federal actually was. The hole shot is much stronger but I did not see any difference in the wake at 15 off. When I drove the boat solo and nailed the throttle the boat jumped out of the water! It felt like I picked up 100 hp! I am sure the 470 would have been a touch better but I could not refuse the deal that XLAIR gave me.
