Its going to be different for everyone depending on the angle of drop on the ramp. We ski out on the Colorado river so in addition to ramp depth we are fighting the current and the wind while loading. Years ago we figured the easy and least damaging way to load was to tie a ski rope to front and back, remain up river and push the boat out off our dock as far as we can, the current takes it downriver and we let it float back towards the trailer. We use the ropes to steer it like it was a kite. after its on the trailer we winch it up tight to the "V" stop when we pull out it drops down and back just enuff to get the cover between the stop and bow rail. Its time consuming but no other way for us to load with out damage to gel coat.

Guess I'm a boat ramp "clown" but according to the US Coast Guard I am "competent."

      Boat Ramp Etiquette

      Launching

......When your turn comes, back into the water, release your boat from the trailer, and get both the boat and tow vehicle clear of the launch area as quickly as possible. If you feel competent, power your boat off the trailer. Be courteous.

Enjoy your day on the water!

      Loading

............Be courteous. As soon as your trailer is in the water, load your boat and secure your bow line. If you feel competent, power your boat onto the trailer.
Retrieve the boat and trailer from the water as quickly as possible.
Get clear of the ramp. When your boat is secure, leave the parking area and drive home safely.

I have a new prestige and it has the wench. I float it on and wench it up about 3 ft. The prestige I have is awsome. It has the diamond plates on the side insted of carpet and it tows real nice like the Ramlins. I know that you can but wenches for the Ramlins. They have a Slot in the crash pad that the strap runs through. Mine has the v pad up front.

We picked up our boat this summer and recently found one of those messed up launches.(Bald Eagle) I almost took care of the prop, but got very lucky. My only problem is the fact that I have a Ramlin and can't figure out how to get a winch on the trailer. Until then I try to come into the trailer with a little speed so I don't have to "power" as much. So, anyone know how to get a winch to work with a ramlin?

Yes mark, how is the proper non clown way of loading. I don't have a Ramlin or Dh what ever, but have a trailer made by a company in Texas. If I was to try and winch it on, I would break the winch it requires so much force. Even my dealer showed me how to power load it.

I think Ramlin might need a new design or something. I mean, I know nothing about designing trailers. But, the first few times I tried to load my SN on the trailer I was ready to hurt children and small animals. The ramp has to be just perfect and you have to power it on the trailer with the trailer sitting just deep enough in the water or the boat would rock back and forth on the wishbone bunks. Now, we've found a slightly better ramp, but it's still tricky to get it on there right.

Yup, I feel your pain  ! Do you have the V-pad (not the crash pad)?

If by V-pad you mean a guide that ends up being kinda half way down the keel on the front, no i don't have that. All I've got is the pads in front that the rub rail on the bow rests up against. I guess once you get used to loading it, it's not as bad. But it still requires a pretty good ramp. Also, I'd be screwed if MN-WI decides to not allow power loading.

Ramlin does have a winch option. Came standard with our 2004 Ramlin trailer. Hope these pictures help those out wondering where to put it. Some lakes we power all the way on. But most of the time we bring it on a quarter of the way and then crank it up. Fenders about an inch above the water line. Hey Mark-S and PJ where do you ski at? We hit Bald Eagle, White Bear, Turtle Lake and Forest Lake.

Thanks for the pics! Hmm, I'll have to check into getting a new crash pad mounting bar thingy...mine doesn't have a hole for a winch strap.

We've hit Bald Eagle and White Bear a couple times, but mostly we're on Lake Olson, DeMontreville and Jane.

                          cb,
If the "pinstripe" was part of the actual gelcoat, it would be a nightmare to fix. The nice thing about the pinstripe is that you can change it at any time and have a new look for your boat. I would trim the tape line back on your boat and then you won't have to mess with it any more.

We didn't order our Ram-Lin w/ a winch just b/c we didn't even think about it and thought it just came standard no matter what. However ours didn't come w/ one but in the end, we like it w/ the classic turnbuckle. I think it gives the boat/trailer a much cleaner look than oppose to a stopper w/ a winch attached to it. But thats just me...

Nautiquenewbie, on the weekends I ski with AirJeff or go up to Cumberland, WI where my boat is kept at. During the week I ski in Winona, MN. Things are probably winding down for me this season. Hope we can hook up sometime next year for some skiing and/or riding.

I ski at 2 diff lakes west of chanhassen and I im building a house on Trophy lake In Pine Island.
AG4EVER, You just have to put the wheel wells 1 inch showing above the waterline. Coast it on as far as it wil glide on. Which on worst case ramp I have is about 4 ft of wench. Wench it up to the front and pull out of the water. Its that simple. If you power it on, all the rocks and dirt will empty out a big hole and create a big hill of rock/debris that props hit when putting boats in or out. In the case of our launch, all the rocks and dirt get removed from under the cement pileings and that causes them to drop further in the water. The trailer tires drop off the back of those pilings and than 2 things can happen. Your skegges/fins will smash on the concrete and bend or your trailer will bottom out. I cant tell you how many guys I have seen that have ruined there boats. In a way it helps keep other boats away from my lake. Once they have damage, you dont see them back.
