    Snap-out carpet problems

Is anyone else having trouble with their snap-out carpet? I have a 2004 SV211, with just over 200 hours. I love the boat, with my two minor gripes being the Flow-Rite ballast valves (they are being replaced with the TH Marine valves) and some issues with the snap-in carpet.

I find that when the carpet gets wet it is really, really slow to dry due to the heavy rubber backing, and if I leave it in the boat overnight it starts smelly musty in the garage. Additionally, if it dries while in the boat, I end up with little pieces of that rubber backing stuck to the textured surface of the fiberglass.

It is kind of a hassle to remove and replace the carpet so frequently. I’m also experiencing some deterioration of the backing at a few of the snaps. One of the snap bottoms recently pulled out of the fiberglass walk-thru hatch, because the fiberglass has been weakened by upward pressure from that snap.

    Are these common issues?

I had that exact boat and the exact same problems. About 25% of the snaps were either broken or had pulled out of the fiber glass. I'm not sure if it's a common problem or if the family who owned it before us was just really rough on the boat.

If you paid the $300 transfer fee, I think the warranty will cover those items.

In my 2004 SV-211, I had problems with the snaps coming out of the fiber glass, but no backing problems. I had no problems with the carpets or snaps in my "05 211 or '06 220.

          mine too.

I just leave the carpet in now, have fixed 4 or 5 snaps now. Fabric store has the snaps if you need to repair yours.

I will probably replace the carpet next summer, it's getting tired looking (2005, 390 hours).

I think I will probably just keep removing the carpet so it can dry, because it starts stinking if I leave it in the boat wet (there isn't much air movement in the garage). That probably means I will break some snaps from time to time, which I can deal with - I just replaced one last night, and it's a simple fix. A bit of a hassle, but no big deal.

I am also curious about the cost for new carpet for a 211. Maybe the replacement carpet will dry better and/or not leave the black bits on the fiberglass.

                snap out carpet group buy???

There was a label on the back of my carpet but I think it's gone. It would be great if we could get somebody to set up a group buy with a nice product.

My tag suggests Syntec Industries was the manufacturer, and The Mat Works Ltd. created the finished product.
