    Salvaged Nautiques?

I realize this is probably a weird question for most of you guys, but someone has got to know. My father has a lot of experience rebuilding salvaged cars and trucks. Now he wants to try a Nautique. Does anyone know where you can find these things, someone has got to have sunk one of these (I know a lot of boats go down in Lake Powell ever year due to tying them to your houseboat), however unfortunate that may sound. If any one knows where I can find some please let me know. Thanks.

I'm not sure how "wrecked" of a boat you're looking for but craigslist usaully has several older boats that need reconditioned.

    Here's one for example.. http://austin.craigslist.org/boa/807686198.html

I would imagine you are looking for a late model that has been classified as a total loss, i.e. submerged or fire, that you could pick up at a fraction of it's value and rebuild it. Do they give boats an inspection and a salvaged title or is the work untraceable? I would imagine if there is a fire, the hull is damaged and would cost too much to fix. If the boat sinks, the insurance company would pay for the engine repair or replacement and resale to try and recoup their loss. I have, however, seen auctions for seized and repossesed boats along the coast where there are enough boats and buyers for there to be a market.

I have heard of people buying a boat that was in a flood or fire, they fix it up, but then they were unable to insure it.

Title problems, I suppose. Isn't Nautiqueman an insurance agent?

I don't think its title problems as much as some insurance companies refuse to insure vehicles that have been under certain loss parameters. I know that ICBC in BC, for example, will not insure any vehicle that was in a flood, and that includes the trailor under the boat.

What data base would the insurance company be using to find out the damage history?

Not sure; I'm not in that loop, but don't most insurance companys require ser# from hull, engine, and trailor in order to insure?

We don't have boat titles here in AZ. Lots of boats that sink end up getting rebuilt. I know on ebay someone is trying to sell a Sanger that sunk.

A couple of websites are out there too that just deal in boats that have been totalled by the insurance co

I doubt you will find many Nautiques out there. I think the owners are more responsible and since the boats are built better and hold their value better few get totalled out by the insurance cos.

There was a 99 Super Air with Python motor on Phoenix craigslist that the guy was trying to get 18k for. He told me there was nothing wrong with the boat except it needed a tune up and the upholestry needed to be replaced. I called the CC dealer in Mesa to get it looked at and he had the records on the boat. It had been sunk in powell and he told me it needed 20k in repairs. The guy told me the trailer had a salvaged title but not the boat? Slimy dude and I almost got taken! You may be able to find that boat still and tell the guy you know whats happened.

I could use some cup holders, kill switch lanyard, and dashpod to throw in my spare parts bin.

What makes you think he's smoking in it? That's pretty sad though. I wonder how much it would go for and how much it would take to repair it... that's a pretty big hole in the fiberglass, though... bummer.
