Saceone, I had to go back and look at my first response again after seeing the photo of the Black rubicon posted above. I was thinking of the 2 door Wrangler so I went on the Jeep website and took a look at the specs. Just last week I traded an 05 Liberty for an 08 Liberty so I thought I would use that for a comparison to the Rubicon.

Liberty Wheel base is 106, Rubicon 4 door is 116
Liberty weight is 4200, Rubicon is 4400
    Liberty 3.7 v6 puts out 210 Ho, Rubicon 3.8 v6 puts out 202 hp
Liberty Tow cap 5000#, Rubicon tow cap is 5200#
Liberty final drive ratio is 3:21, Rubicon is 4:10
Standard Tire size is also larger on the Rubicon.

My Liberty tows my Nautique which is max weight with trailer and gear of3500# fairly well, Stopping it is no problem, the trailer is equiped with brakes and both of these vehicles come with disc brakes all around. The Liberty is a little slugish with the 3.7 because of the highway gears but at 4:10 rear gear the Rubicon should pull much nicer, the trade off being revving pretty high on the highway and using more fuel.

The longer wheel base of the Rubicon will help out and it's hard to imagine that vehicle weighs in at 4400#. I think I would reverse my original opinion and think the Rubicon would be fine for everyday towing but maybe a little tough on fuel and comfort on long haul highway trips if you do that. A hard stop situation might still test it's ability to handle that large boat back there though.

You may want to consider putting electric brakes on your trailer. It eliminates the "slam" when you start and stop, and you can dial in as much braking power as you need with the brake control. I converted a trailer on a previous boat with no problems. Just my 2 cents.

Please put more thought after reading the following.

Perhaps I should have said "When your tires and the road are wet your brakes won't stop you" instead of "No brakes in the rain".

Re-read the other posts on electric brakes vs surge brakes.

Then add to it that the CJ needed an EQ hitch to keep the front axle loaded and the rear axle normal.

Then add that the new Jeep will have 4 wheel anti-lock which significantly ADDS to braking distances on wet roads...even WITHOUT a trailer.

Then add the fact that we are now talking about a SANTE (hopefully with a tandem axle) that is pushing 5000 or more lbs and is heavier than the tow vehicle. Unlike the Liberty and the 3500 lb Nautique.

The only good thing I see about this combination is that the Jeep's rear axle is very close to the hitch which will reduce the amount of front axle weight reduction when the trailer is connected.

        I wouldn't do it. Period.

That is a sweet looking rig.
Yea, that's why I kept it on my computer. I like it too!

Where is everyone getting 5200 lbs tow capacity? The Jeep website lists the Wrangler at 2000 and the Unlimited at 3500. Manufactures normally quote a conservative rating to be safe and to prevent the engine from overheating on hills. That's not to say that the vehicle can't pull the 5000 lbs on the flat safely. That said, if you are in an accident (even a minor one) while towing, your insurance company can give you a hard time if you exceeded manufacture tow limits.

It's a nice rig, but probably not the best choice gievn your needs. I believe the H3 can tow more...

I checked the site and you are right. Looks like we have our answer.
