It's not the money Bullet,it's the principal. If they upped the price of the boat when new and called it good it would be better than getting slapped in the face later.IMO an informed buyer can use that knowledge to beat you up another 1k of your asking price when your selling used. It's like telling the guy that you'll stand behind your product for him,but if he sells it,the new buyer will have to "re-purchase the warranty" to keep it valid. You're basically "buying" a parts warranty, not transferring the original warranty. Bogus . You can't tell me the new price of a boat doesn't include some speculated recovery costs of warranty repairs. It's like a doc fee when buying a new car.In our state they charge 50.00 to file title docs, but the car dealer charges you 350.00. Know where that other 300.00 goes?? Right into the dealership owners pocket. I know everyone's doing it,it just sucks everytime you turn around someones looking to squeeze you alittle more.I refuse to run my business like that.

Keep in mind that your $300.00 transfer fee is used to pay a secretary to change the name in the computer. How much do you think she/he gets of that?

So much for it being the end of rant! Don't mind me ,it's been a long day. Sorry for the lengthy post

No offense, but what you are saying really does not make any sense, why should the original purchaser pay more so the second hand buyer can save money??
"Beating up the asking price", why, it's the same for all CC's not just one??
Secretary getting a commission, seriously, that's ridiculous??

It's $300, as a percentage that is very nominal.

When you purchase a BMW the warranty is 4 years/ 50,000 miles (everything covered) - It does not matter wether you are original buyer or the 10th owner - if it is within the warranty period it is covered. The point being made is that we are purchasing the "cream of the crop" and the warranty is basically cut in half or more for the second or other owner.

That is his point. Where is the $300 going? Minus the 2 minutes it takes the secretary to update the computer, money in the bank.

              Thank You HW.

Chris, that is what I was trying to point out.It costs $300 for the transfer, which only takes someone a few minutes to do.How bout a 50.00 fee.Little more reasonable.
As far as getting beat up on the price,if your boat was for sale, how would you feel if you didn't know about the fees and the potential buyer said"well, I'll take it if you knock off another $700.00 so I can continue the coverage that it supposedly still has left on the warranty, cause that's what the dealer said it will cost to transfer it"? My point being, factor a few hundred into the original price across the board(dealer price and retail price) and let new buyers negotiate as normal. Then if the original owner decides to sell, just charge a small transaction fee for the transfer.
When a circumstance like this arises, people have a tendency to feel like there being taken advantage of,and it can make a company look bad.Especially when being directly compared to close competition.

Anyway, I appoligize for not being more clear about what I was getting at.

I have been in the auto industry since 1971 I have never seen any
car manufacturer charge a fee to keep the new car warranty.
The fact that CC and their dealers put such a high price on transferring
the warranty has caused me to no longer look at 08 like new boats.
Maybe that is part of the reason for the high cost.

Perhaps I should agree to disagree,

It's not all that uncommon to see warranties that end with the original owner, not sure if that is a marine standard or not, and comparing CC with the Auto Industry is clearly not apples to apples whether you take units or dollars in sales. With anything knowledge is power, that applies to the buyer and the seller.

My take on the way CC offers the transfer is they are hoping people only keep their boats for 2-3 seasons then buy new again.

Maybe as things continue to get more competitive you will see that fee go away and the warranty periods grow.

Just for the record, HW is a Knob Gobbler.
