RE: tower question for a 196
My church owns a 1998 Ski Nautique with a Correct Craft tower on it. It is currently moored 26 miles from me, so I cannot get any dimensions from it. I could, later this month when I winterize the boat.

Towers will not fit a 196. They are required to be towerless, besides you dont need a tower to slalom with! J/k I thought the mini towers look pretty cool, but they are head bangers.2005 Ski Nautique 206 SE, Acme 422, PP SG 8.0, ND Tower

Here is a CC flight control tower on a 05 196. purchased from CC. The dealer installed it with no problems. I ski with a friend who has an 07 196 with no tower, we can not see any change in the wake between both boats. Skiing from 34 to 36 any line lenght. It is a great tool to help people learn to get out of the water for the first time long line. Also it is great for Barefooting longline.

If you are a recreational skier, the tower hookup will work. if you tow a serious slalom skier, they will pull the boat around a lot with the high attachment point of a tower.
I have skied behind the 1998 Church Ski Nautique, with a tower, but with ski rope attached to the pylon, many times. I have also skied behind my 1997 Ski Nautique, a lot.
There might be a difference in the wakes, but there might be a difference between having a 3/4 full gas tank, and a 3/8 full gas tank, and removing the back seat.
Reality is, take a Ski Nautique, leave the back seat in, put an average load of stuff in the trunk, if your model of Ski Nautique has one, and put a tower on it, and fill the gas tank to full, and the boat will still have one of the best slalom wakes of any boat.
By the way, I have a "Ten Foot Pole" for my boat I use when wake boarding, or want to use the back seat.
Official disclaimer: You should never put passengers in a boat where the ski rope passes over any part of their body, including the head. Serious injury or death may result.
If I had a laywer, he would recommend I say the disclaimer.
