    RE: Well I did it!

The wheel cylinders rust up on those things and they start sticking like that. I wired that reverse lever down to get me home then used it like that for a month or so till i rebuilt the system. you need to get the brakes freed up though, and grease the bearings good. when the system is working right, you shouldn't need the reverse lock-out unless backing up a rise. I rarely use mine.

      RE: Well I did it!

Well I still have to deal with the trailer brakes. Currently they are deactivated.
So I finally got to take her out all Sunday with the family. She ran really good and the kids absolutely had a ball. My 8 year old son tried kneeboarding for the first time and got up no problem and loved it. I bought a boom but unfortantly didnt get here till monday. So next week we will work on wae boarding and skiing. On to the boat. I started her at our house on the house before we left just to make sure she started and everything. We gt to the boat dock and she started again great and run very good. There are a few concerns and things I need t fix for next week.
      1) We ran her all day any were from slow speeds but to my kneeboarding and wake boarding as well as a few wide open jonks going back to the docks.
Temp were always in the 120's which seem low for an mid 80's degree south florida day.
      2) Steering is very difficult and sticky both directions. I am going to order a new cable but I am concerned there is a few inches of play in both direction on the steering wheel. Would this be the cable or from the helm?
3)When the boat is on the trailer I was looking at the prop and it has seen better days. I am going to replace it but with which one? What is the best all around prop? The other thing I noticed was there is a fair amount of play both vertically and side to side on the rudder? and prop. So i was going to replace the bushing in the strut for the prop. But what is there to adjust with the rudder? I havet looked in the owers manual about the rudder assembly yet. Is there any adjustment to it?
      4) I need a stereo in the boat. I am not going to go crazy just 4 speakers and a head unit. Does anyone have any info and pictures of mounting the head unit in the glove compartment on top of the dash?
      Thanks
      Thanks

        RE: Well I did it!

        Rl,
        1) The 120 temp isn't bad but does seem low. Keep in mind that unlike a car, a boat has a unlimited supply of cooling water from the lake. The ambient air temp really doesn't have any effect. You could put in a new T stat and see what happens.

        2) Get a new steering cable. They are know to go bad. The cable is one of the few things you MUST get through CC. It's a special length and stroke. Get it in and it should clear up the slack in the helm.

        3) A new prop to look into is the Acme 540 but first do some searches here and on CCfan for some threads/reviews to make sure it would be the proper prop.

Most of the side to side play in your rudder will be removed with the new cable. The up and down is normal but tighten up the packing gland on the rudder log. It won't be as loose.

It does sound like it's time for a new cutlass bearing in the strut. When you pull the shaft, check it for straightness. When you put it all back together, don't forget to do a full strut forward alignment.

        4) I'm not big on stereos in my boats so others here can help you out with that.

          Thanks 8122
I have a new thermostat so I will replace it. I guess with always having warm weather in S Florida it running cold is not a big deal compared to colder climates. I am going to be in Orlando this weekend and going to the correct craft factory on Monday. Any one know if I can get the steering cable there or is there another place I can pick one up while I am up there? There is not a CC dealer by me? I figured I would do the new prop, strut bearing as wel as the steering cable and anything I can do with the rudder at the same time. Any thing else I should do while I am in there?

            RL,
You'll probably have to purchase the cable through a dealer because I doubt the factory is set up for over the counter sales. As long as you're down there, you can go to Southeast Marine which is the old SECC. They still have and will continue CC support. I'll bet they have the cable in stock! The new dealer is Correct Craft of Orlando but them being so new may not have the inventory yet. Go see Woody at Southeast Marine!! Someone here will have a address. If you ask at the factory tour, they will probably steer you to the new dealer!!
