RE: Re: RE: 206 vs 216

SkiTower....the dealer just moved my seat back a little on our new 216 and I have plenty of leg room. 6'-6" and 270 lbs.

CD....you are probably better off just trying them out to see which one you like better.

Hey, a fellow jolly green giant! I've got you on weight though, 285. I talked to a CC sales rep this summer and he said the same thing. I'll keep that in mind for the next one. As I get better and my kids start up (currently kneeboarding), I'm sure I'll be drooling for a better wake soon.

I have found a 2008 216 in our area, this boat seems to make the most sense to me for our needs, now i need to drive one and ski behind it to make the final call. The LXI seems not bad but i sat in one and i dont like the windshield on them, also the stainless towers are ugly and finding a used lxi with the illusion tower is tough.

i think the CC is for me.

For what it’s worth, I recommend a 216. I slalom ski every weekend throughout the year with a few friends. We have two 216s, two Malibu LXIs and one MasterCraft ProStar 197 that we rotate through the weekends. When considering in 2005, a 206 vs a 216, I found the following: the 206 windshield is too close to the passenger’s head, resulting in head bumps when crossing wakes; the 206 trunk is too small to hold a slalom ski; the 216 has more space for the family as well as all of the gear when multiple skiers; the slalom wake is more than acceptable because it is soft at 34 mph at 22-32 off (the level of the skiers); the ballast tanks on the 216 are okay for weekend wakeboarding (I added a belly ballast where I plumbed in the ballast in the cooler underneath the floorboard); and I’m happy with the decision 3 years and 375 engine hours later – I have no regrets. Good luck with your decision.

Re the SV-211 (point-of-reference is '07 model year): Good boat for wakeboarding & family. Decent wake for beginner/intermediate slalom (going one side of the wake to the other, but not in <3-4 sec per side as if you were trying to run a course), but when I tried to "cut" behind it, I went airborne, and that just ain't fun on a slalom ski. There is a reason it is only certified for class-C tournaments.
Re the 216 ('07 model year again): Much better slalom wake than the SV-211 or any I/O out there. I love the wake at 34mph at 28 off. Get the 216TE (team edition) with the balast tanks, etc. so the wake boarders can do their stuff. Granted, the 206 & 196 will have a slightly nicer slalom wake than the 216 b/c they don't weigh as much, but unless you really load them down, wakeboarding will be difficult behind them. If you're in the course more than a casual "once in a while", the 206 would become a stronger option, but lets be honest, most of us aren't skiing on private lakes on permanent courses with professional drivers, etc.
I don't think CC has had AWSA certify the 216 recently, but I'm not aware of any changes they've done to the boat since they last time they paid the $$$ to have it certified.
            I've got an '07 216TE & don't think I could've found a better boat for my needs.
Each person's needs/criteria are different, so what works best for me may not work best for you.

thanks for your comments Mark, I think the 216 is the choice. Our local dealer doesnt have a 216 currently so they told me i could take out a 206, they claim the there is almost no difference between the wakes. I would still like to drive one though. I have seen Limited Editions loaded right up with all the goodies, ballast tanks, zero off, just missing the subwoofer which is ok.

Did you look at the X14 by chance when you were shopping? what were your thoughts?

CD I have skied an X14 and the standard 214. I do not like the 214 wake, and no one in our ski club that skied it likes it either. The boat is interesting as far as the layout, and they are about to realease a V drive version that is supposed to have as "good" a ski wake as the 214.

I would rather ski behind my freinds Maristar 210 any day over the 214 or any version of it.

interesting...that seems to be the case from almost everyone that skis behind those boats. for a dd boat they sure arent winning many skiers with that one. I doubt their vdrive would be any better...

I skied the 214 at 15 off, 30mph in the course for a set and it was fine. A little more of a bump than the 197 but it is very skiable. I'm very sensitive to the wake since my position on the off-side wake cross is still not 100% solid, and I didn't mind the 214 at all.

                        CD,

I only looked at the Nautiques since I was so satisfied with my previous '94 Sport. I suggest getting the boated loaded, otherwise you'll be regretting it. The little things like not having to look for the keys and the built in depth gauge make it worth it.

Just find a buddy with a ski boat and buy a 220 or 230 and your family will love you. Slalom behind your buds ski boat and pull your bud's groms behind your wakeboard boat. Everyone's happy. Happy spook day!!!!

Congrats, you will enjoy the 216. I purchased an 06 216 TE last year about this time. The wait for spring was killing me but so worth it when I put her in the water.

If you are considering another manufacturer, there is one with a record capable slalom vdrive which might be the perfect boat if boarding and surfing are also important.
