RE: Re: RE: 206 vs 216

"record capable" still remains to be seen. The 214V has got that moniker, but until I see someone at least run 1 or 2 at 41 off behind it, the jury is out.

It's not a moniker, it's an approval by awsa and it's been approved already. But I don't want to disrespect this site by discussing it's merits over any of the cc's. I only brought it up because the op mentioned other brands.

i already bought a CC 216, so its a done deal. Makes me wonder though more people dislike the wake on the 214 direct drive so how can the 214V be better? I also struggle with the build quality of the MC, I went to the MC dealer then the CC dealer and the difference in build quality in very apparent even to the untrained eye. Makes me wonder what you cant see of the core of the boat is built like.

First off, congratualtions on the new boat. If you will indulge me, I'll talk about MC. Again, I don't want to step out of bounds on the CC forum.

First off, MC build quality is second to none. Please tell me any ski/ wakeboard boat that builds anything better in any area. Hand laid fiberglass, thickest hull, heaviest vinyl, steel or aluminum backing plates for every piece of hardwaree. Have you toured each factory? Seen them being put together?

And the 214 wake is very close to the 197. Arguably better at 15 and 22 off, and very close at shortline. I've owned both. And the number of world records the 197 holds speaks for itself.

But I didn't come here to start a MC vs. CC argument. I truly came here to find out a little more about CC and to interact with a nice cross section of watersports enthusiasts. Somebody respond and get the last word in because I won't carry the discussion any further.

John, Don't take me wrong. I wasn't bashing MC. Everyone has a difference of opinion and I've skied both the 197 and 214 and I wouldn't call their wakes similar at all. I love the 197 wake. But the 214 I'm not a fan of at all. It'll be interesting to see the 214V wake. So I stand by my original statement of "When I see 1 or 2 at 41 off, then I'll consider it a record capable boat." Same as if Correct Craft certified one of their big boats.

Let's face it, both mc and cc build great boats. It isn't and wasn't my intent to argue one vs. the other. Every boat shines in one or some areas vs. another. And I can't fault you for waiting to see something in person before judging. That's a novel approach compared to most I meet in the boating forums. Personally I don't see a Vdrive boat for slalom very appealing compared to my 214DD. But there must be a market for it.

Did you ski the 214 and 197 same day? Similar crew weights? Because the consensus (read subjective opinion of a bunch of guys with an opinion no more important than yours) is that the wakes are very similar. But I should have been more specific. That is only at 34-36 mph. Any slower and the similarities disappear.

The problem is, you wont get anyone to make an attempt at 38, 39 or 41. When I had my 206, I would bring it to tourneys and everyone would skip tat round. That was with a 206 that has a very sweet wake. If you showed up at a slalom or 3 event event with a 216, you would have 0 hours put n your boat.
The point is that the boats are skiable but not 196ish at all.

Wow, that's amazing. Too much of a trough to go through? Apparently even the 196 has more of a "trough" than the MC and Bu at the really short lengths, from what I've heard.

No sense bringing a knife to a gun fight..........or something like that. My understanding is that there is a distinct difference in the wake from a 196 to a 206. Every boat has a purpose.

Here we go again on the 206 vs 196 thing. I only have 1 point to make. From 28 off and in, the 206 is the same as the 196.
I have only skied a 2007 PS190, but I thought that it was a better wake then the 197.
I have yet to ski a closed bow late model malibu to compare against the RLXI

                        John,

I think the 3 main builders all have pretty good boats. I guess my opinions have been formed from spending alot of time in and around MC boats, our famliy goes to a family camp every year and they get 4 brand new MC boats each yr. for their waterfront program. THis yr they had an X7, X14, CSX 220 and a X45 but it was not there the week we were there, it was at the dealer for repairs. I did not drive or ski behind any of them this yr but previous yrs i skied and drove them ,taking people out for a ski or wakeboard lesson. I did alot of research before making my purchase and the 216 was the best choice for us. I looked at the 216 and X14 back to back and i cant beat around the bush here, CC is winning the JD awards for a reason, looking at them both in one day was pretty convincing. For me and again my opinion, the feel of the materials, the fit and finish, and little things they do make the difference. the X14 didnt have the features that were important to us. For instance storage at the back of the boat and a sunbed.

I just sold my MC so i was a MC guy and had every intention of buying another, but in the end didnt. The 2008 X14 at the camp was also really loud, it sounded awesome but i would tire of that pretty quick, so i was going to have to spend more money to put mufflers on it.

Your boat will give you tons of pleasure as did my MC and should be a very good boat for you over the yrs.

I agree, I don't see the though of a v drive slalom boat as something appealing. There seems to be more room in the middle, but I'm not crazy about the back seating. Oh well, to each his own.

Getting the right boat for oneself is far and away most important.

                            Congrats again on the 216.

The X14 is a little unconventional with it's interior. But it suits us well - I feel like the interior is stretched out without the sunpad and ski locker.

And my '08 X14 IS loud. They have since put silent master mufflers back on these engines. Like you said, sounds great at first but it wears on you. I pick up my '09 X14 next month.

I think the market for a V-drive slalom boat is pretty big, at least here in the midwest where we have a lot of intermediate to advanced intermediate skiers. While they will surely never replace true inboard slalom boats for the serious slalom junkie they will serve a purpose for the aggressive family and those that may never break into 41' off but still want a boat that skis great.

Bottom line is we are all pretty lucky to have so many boats to choose from, think back just 10 or 15 years and the inboard world was pretty small and had very limited offerings.
Sold my boat to buy a house, the house is much less fun.
