With respect to winter, I love it in the mountains. I have a cabin in North Idaho and winter is fantastic there. Tons of snow, and not really cold. Last year, we got nearly 300 inches. However, here in MN, it gets way too cold, and we do not get enough snow consistently to have much fun in it.
Our winter sport is to watch the weatherman mention the 'S' word and watch everybody run to the store like they're gonna be snowed in for a week, and then IF it happens to do something watch them then go back to the store in the 4X4.

My dream home is on a lake in the mountains. One Day! Yellow_Flash_Colorz:

It is amusing to watch how the 'S' affects the more southern parts of the country (compared to us)
I particularly like the folks who think 4WD makes you invincible on icy roads.

There's two 'funnies' down here. The first is as you stated about people think 4WD makes you invincible. The other is (No offense) Northerners that come down with the "I can drive in snow" mentality. We get more ice than snow, which requires a different kind of driving. The other difference is up North you are more equipped to handle it while we don't get it enough to invest. It's almost a 'let it melt' mentality, justified.

I love winter as snow skiing is second only to water skiing !!

That said, I skied in Akron this past weekend and plan to ski up here in Canada this coming weekend (drysuit conditions for skinny me) then I'll pull the course, dock, lift and boat. Can't get enough so heading south next week to get some coaching from Chet and Wim at Palm Beach Training Centre :-)

                beautiful.....sunny......81 deg F.....light winds.....the ponds are flat.......boat is winterized.........................!!!

got it out first of March (way too early) and winterized end of Sept (way too early). Anybody see a trend here? Yellow_Flash_Colorz:

Good thing I'm too busy for the lake, or I'd probably have to re-winterize it.

I'm also down in NC, and after the cold snap we're going though, I think I'll be winterizing either this upcoming weekend or next. Not too excited about it, but I'll have her wet by late March again.

Seriously, water temp 80 and your calling it quits! I skied last weekend in 49 degree water. Had to keep my hands out of the water when I dropped on each end of the course so they didn't get numb! I've been in a dry suit for three weeks. I can't believe that you guy's are throwing in the towel with any water temp above 50. In Idaho our water temp peaks at 75 and that is only for a couple of weeks in August. If it is above 65 we consider it warm. Yellow_Flash_Colorz:

I'd love to see an 83 here in NC. Saturday will be 72 & rainy, Sunday will be 68 for the high. Tuesday night it'll get down to 33, and Wednesday night it'll hit 30. Time for me to close up shop until March.
I'll ski in 58 degree water with a full-length wetsuit, and I admit after spending the $$$ of the Nautique, I shouldn't be so cheap as to not buy a dry suit.

This weekend we'll probably pull the boats, earlier than ever before. Even up here in NH it's nice to go out in November with the heat on on those sunny days you get here and there. Two years ago we had a boat in until January 15th, with an unusually late ice-in and some record warm (50's!) days in January. Then we got snow and uh oh... it was cool to see the snow flowing down the river though, by the ramp... an unusual sight.

Winter here in NH is usually great - boats go away and out come the snow toys...

SquamInboards, that's a picture for January for the calendar...At least you get snow toys. It gets too cold to enjoy being outside but not cold enough to enjoy being outside (if you get my meaning)
