Winter Refurb on the 89

Continued the wet sand and wax/polish last night. I'm almsot doen with both sides of the boat now, top of the bow and transom left to go.

I am also replaceing the hardware for the swim platform brackets. The bottom bolts are not stainless nad they are about corroded to the point they arent doing any good. Also pulled off the Pitot tube that wasnt working. I have the replacement but I need to get new hardware and some silicone first

The rub rail looks great, our 88 came with a black rope and I've always really liked it. Your boat is the second I've seen to ditch the white, or even worse, colored replacement for black.

thanks for the compliment. When I got it it had a red/white striped one and I said that had to go when I first saw it. I was going to do the white to put it back factory, but since the hull is grey and there isnt any other white on the boat, I did black and I am very pleased with how it came out.

Don't use silicone! Have you ever noticed that the stuff will peel off after awhile? It just doesn't stick to anything and that means it doesn't seal very good ether! Get some 3M 5200 for the pickup and the platform brackets.

I am going down to the boat store at lunch to get a bottle of "through hull sealant" I saw a while back. I know its not silicone, but that was what popped into my head Yellow_Flash_Colorz: I'll look for the 3M stuff while I'm there as well and see what they have

Replaced the rusted hardware and the broken Pitot tube tonight. Also finished the wetsanding, polishing on the starboard side.

The front two grills were broken and cracked so i picked these up as replacements. I got chrome instead of the black, it was what they had in stock. I like the change. I'll have to keep an eye out for a third one now to repalce the rear vent as well.

And one bad piece of news, the closest boat store to work (few blocks away) closed last friday. I knew they were going out of business but they had told me they would be open till christmas.

Nice job! now I am going to get some of that black rope at the big orange box. make sure you get a acme 422 if you dont have one already, it makes the boat ride mucho better.

I really dont know what prop is on it. I assumed it was stock.

see the tag "img" above the quick reply button. you use it to post pictures. First the picture has to be hosted already(photobucket) right click onthe picture, choose properties and copy the URL. then past the URL after the [img] and then close it with [/img]

Or you can add them as an attachment directly from your computer. Got to post reply, click add attachment, then browse. Choose your pic file, then click Add Attachment below Browse.

I'm guessing an ACME 470 if you want a three blade, or an acme 1422 for a four blade, right? Right????

i picked up '60 of that braided black 5/8 at HD last night, any tips on the install?

it takes about 46 foot to do it just start in the back at the clip, undo the 4 scres and pull the old out.

Put the new in place at the clamp and replace the clamp to hold the new rope, this will let you pull it tight as you work your way around. I used a 1/2 wrench and a flat head screwdriver to do mine and it went quickly. Use the wrench to pry the rub rail open and the screwdriver to push the rope into it. Kee pthe rope tight at all times.

When you get all the way around, undo the clamp again and finish with the rope. I wrapped electrical tape around the rope at the point I needed to cut it at, cut the rope in the middle of the tape to keep it from unraveling, use a lighter to fuse the strands.
