How much re-sale value will Wakeboard Tower add?

I just purchased a Nautique Limited 226 and I am selling my 88 Martinique (listed here). I didn’t ever expect to sell the Martinique and have put tons of money in upgrades over the last few years. I have access to a good price for a tower ($500), I could add to the Martinique. I have put so much money in the Martinique that I will never recover and adding the additional $500 for the tower may not increase the price.

My question is: Would it be worth adding a tower to help sell the boat?

In my opinion the answer would be no. If someone wants a tower you could politely let them know where one could be purchased. A tower would make it less valuable to a person looking for a classic Correct Craft and wouldn't add that much value for someone looking for a boat with a tower.

If I was in the market for a Martinique, I would prefer it without a tower. The tower may make it more attractive to some buyers, but I don't believe that you are going to get dollar for dollar out of that $500 investment, let alone more. You are also reducing your potential buyer pool to those looking for an inexpensive ski boat with a wakeboard setup. I wouldn't do it.

        MikeC,
Yea, didn’t consider the family looking, I was thinking in the lines of a young wake boarder can’t afford $30,000 to $50,000 for a pure wakeboard boat. You bring up a good point.
I will miss the simplicity of a carb, standard ignition and analog switches and gauges. Don’t get me wrong I love my new Nautique, no pumping the throttle just push and start but when I start having problems it’s the black box's, digital switching and such I worry about. I have owned 5 CC's in 32 years and never had anyone work on or trouble shoot except myself. When the new boat gives problems it’s likely not going to be that easy.

            Jaybird,

Why don't you keep the Martinique?! Just see it as a clasic car, you cannot have to many of them!
We still have our '88 Barefoot. Plans are to sell it, but I hope we still keep that boat, it's a execellent second boat!

But don't put a tower on the Martinique!! Keep it original!

              Laptom,

Yea the wife wants to keep it too! Last Memorial Day weekend our transmission went out on the Martinique on Friday of course so I had a holiday weekend with no boat. Living on the lake that is a bitch. We installed a new Trans the next week but lost that great weekend.
I guess you point of a backup boat is a good one, but no room in the boat house for both. I gota give this more thought.
When you live on the lake taking away your boat is like cutting off our legs.
              Hurry back summer 2008!!!!

My opinion. Putting money into something to increase its value for a sale, is a waste. I highly doubt you could recover the money you spent on the upgrades you have already put into the boat.
I know that sounds harsh, but it is generally true.
Factor in the shape of the current economy, and you probably are going to recover even less money that you probably would have a year ago.

                    I agree don't sell it . I have owned a 1989 Supra Sunsport since
new. It to has been meticulously maintained and cared for.
                    I am ordering a 09 210 but I don't think I will sell the 89
I know I will never find another 89 as nice as mine.
The 9-10k you will get for it wont make any difference.
I have seen your 88 you will never get one like that
again and it will still be worth the same years from now.

IMO, the tower will not add value to the Martinique. Particularly right now, when used boats are cheap, and I mean cheap. I can find boats right now for 3-4K which would have been 10 last summer. I saw one Natique that started out the summer at 19.7, and the guy is now down to 10.3 and still hasn't sold. BKH

                        bkhallpass,

Yea its unreal how cheap boats are now, that’s what I just did, I bought a 2003 Nautique Limited 226, perfect condition without a single scratch, almost show room condition $18,000 under book value.
IT’S A BUYERS MARKET FOR SURE!

I really don’t expect I can sell my boat now but maybe later and yes I may just keep it.

Thanks, I may not sell. Its unlikly I will find anyone who truly appriciates an 88 that has never had any rot and has been kept dry. Its not the money as much as the storage issue.
