Just wondering from owners if the ZR6 engine is worth the extra dollars especially as far as resale goes. I am looking at purchasing a 2009 boat and am wondering if the zr6 is really worth the extra money. My current boat has it,but the engine just has not seemed all that strong as far as hole shot for slalom goes.

RE: Is resale value of ZR6 engine worth the upgrade????
I have been in two 216's, one with the ZR6 and one with the EX330. I thought the EX330 had power to spare in the 216, the ZR6 was overkill (had to give him the thumbs down while footing).

Mikeski,
I have to agree with you. I have a little issue with my current boat & it looks like I am going to get a 2009. I am trying to decide if the zr6 upgrade is worth the extra. I will probably keep the new boat a couple more years before moving to a 220 when I finally decide to hang up the slalom skis. My son is only into wakeboarding and wants a 220.
I was expecting tons of power from the zr6,but had to try a different prop to get more of the hole shot I was looking for. My 99 Sport had a gt40 & had plenty of power.2009 Air Nautique 216 Team

I agree with Konrad, buy it if you want to. Even though you're not likely to get your money back it may be more attractive to potential buyers.
Mike, is overkill a bad thing? Yellow_Flash_Colorz:

RE: Re: RE: Is resale value of ZR6 engine worth the upgrade?
Nobody I know can predict the future, and that is what you are asking us to do. When I bought my Ski Nautique (196) in 1997, the GT-40 was the top of the line engine. I also do pull three tier pyramids on an occasional basis with my show ski team. I also pull multiple barefooters on an occasional basis. The GT-40 has enough power for that, but I wish it had more. I did consider possibly buying a Ski Nautique with the Python engine a few years later, but I did not.
A boat is not an investment vehicle you are looking to make money on. It is something you use to enjoy, to have fun with, something you use to further build the bond with your family. I think if your main concern is future resale value, you are going to be more stressed trying to protect the boat from every little dock ding, every dirty foot that steps into the boat, to enjoy yourself as much.
I have over 2075 hours on my boat. It is paid for. I really enjoy that.
You obviously have your priorities, and I have mine. Neither is right, or wrong, just different. Might I suggest that if you did not trade in a boat as often, you might be able to reduce the time spent at work, and part of that time might be spent in your boat?
Carefully consider the use of of your boat when you purchase it. To the best of your abilities write down all the reasons, pro and con on your next boat purchase, of the ZR-6 engine. Future resale value is one. There are many others.
One last thing. With the economy the way it is now, you might be able to negotiate a better than average deal on the purchase of a boat.

Overkill is never a bad thing when it comes to power, but spending $6k on something that is unlikely needed is wasteful.
On a V-drive that's a different story. I regret my 330EX choice in my SV211, the ZR6 is almost essential for the V-drive boats if you plan on "cross training".
