The difference between tubing and the other stuff is that with everything else, you tend to go in a straight line while tubing you're continuously turning. My gas mileage went way up when my kids started kneeboarding...

So yeah, while all the weight with wakeboarding and wakesurfing does cause a big wake, cutting is what really chops up a lake.

Case in point. I had waited all winter to ski behind my new 211. First thing in the morning the water was glass. There were four boats on the whole lake. Three of them were pulling tubes and doing the S turn thing. Two were nice v-drive boats. My ski was less than fun. Tubes have there place but most people that pull tubes don't realize what they do to the whole lake.
Obviously you didn't get onto the lake early enough. I used to get really irritated at people "chunking up" my water but realize they pay their POA dues also. I just get out of bed earlier on weekends to get the glass.
        Ski on dude!

Apex, personally would not pull a tube from a lifting ring, really don't think pulling from the tower or the pylon is a big deal, just be smart about it, if the tube flips or your rider falls slow down immediately, right the tube on the way back to the rider. Pulling from the tower will also plane the tube out very quickly and the high pull point will eliminate a lot of drag.

Hunter, where do you put in and boat on Lake Michigan? It can be a great place to ski on a calm day although I haven't been out there in many years.
We put in at Portage Marina go down Burns Ditch then go south to a place
called Boaters Beach. You will be on the southern tip of the lake with a south
,south west wind the water is shielded by the dunes stays calm all day.
Best of all very little boat traffic. PM me next season Ill meet you there.

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Pulling tubes

With all the tube bashing I get the impression that you think tubes are only
for kids. Me and my crew have been tubeing for 20+ years. We mostly pull
two at a time and play bumper tube or flip the other tube wile going over the
wake. I have pulled six tubes at once with adults on all of them. The last IO boat
I owned was 1986. I always carry two tubes and a inflater with me.
As for you skiers that want glass you need to be out there at dawn.
Then you can piss off the fishermen. You sound like the same people
that wanted snow boards off the ski mountains. Its all there for everybody.
We work with the conditions that exist not complain about how others
            are using the resources.

PS we also carry slalom skis

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Pulling tubes

I just don't like tubing regardless of the boat it is being towed behind. You can't surf behind an I/O but you can behind a 210.

Regardless of water conditions there are always better options than tubing. We surf whenever the water gets blown out, before we started surfing we used the air chair when it was too rough to ski or board.

Last time I had a tube on the boat was after the in-laws asked me to tow their kids around the lake. The 8 and 10 year old kids were scared and cried after bouncing and getting water splashed in their faces at about 15mph for just a few minutes. I pulled in the tube and got out on the surfboard with each kid riding the front of my board. They loved it, had a much better time than they were having with the tube. That was two years ago, the tubes have not been out since, I just don't see any point to that activity.

What is the saying that comes to mind, "Guns don't kill people..."? Tubes don't ruin conditions, id!ot non-respectful boaters and waverunners ruin conditions. Tubes have their time and place. Respectful boaters understand this and don't go tubing on glassy water when others are skiing/wakeboarding. Same thing applies to waverunners. I have more issues with waverunners ruining perfect conditions then boaters towing tubes. Our lake is glass until 11:30 everday then the wind picks up and it is crappy the rest of the day. We get our wake sessions in in the morning and take the kids tubing in the afternoon. Most people do the same. But there will always be THAT guy.

These threads are stupid. This one must come up 15 times a year. Who cares. Do what you want.... I did make a comment earlier, but had a couple beers in me and thought it was funny. I could care less what any of you do with your boats as long as you are safe and somewhat considerate. I live on a small lake, by choice, so I can do what I want, when I want, in whichever boat I want.

Just my opinion, but this site seems to have taken a downward trend the last year or so with this kind of crap. Bashing on peoples sports, boats, values, etc. Just silly.

If you pull a tube from your tower, you have at least a small chance of cracking the fiberglass at the top of your hull where the tower connects. If you pull a tube from your pylon, you have a higher chance of sinking your boat. I would never take that risk with my baby.

I use a 12 volt inflator I purchested 15 years ago looks kinda
like a small hair drier works great takes 90 seconds to inflate
                            a 54" tube.

Wow, amongst so many other things, we have pulled 5 footers, pyramids, 4 slalom skiers, half dozen or more on combos, it must be a miracle cause I have never damaged or sunk any of my Correct Crafts!!

If pulling a load similar to a tube breaks or sinks my Nautique the next post I make will be on the MC or Malibu forums.
