    Another Ballast Install

I installed a ballast system similiar to other ones shown here on PN. Just thought I would show of some pics.

    quick run down
    4 ballast puppied
    all pro x sacs
    port- 750
    starboard- 750
    belly- rear seat sac
    bow- integrated bow sac
all 1 in fill/ drain hoses
    vent line all 3/4
    has 2, 1 1/4in thru hulls that y to a total of 4 1 in hose barbs

the toughest thing for me was succesfully drilling out the hole from the factory ballast to the new bigger through hull... not having a pilot bit on the hole saw was a big pain in the arse. i drilled a hole in a piece of ply wood then held it in place as a guide. boy was that thing trying to hop all over the place. but i pulled it of with a clean install. one idea i thought that i havent seen was using a magnetic fish tanks cleaner to make sure i was drilling in the exact spot i wanted. it worked out beautifully. hope you all enjoy the pics

    RE: Another Ballast Install

Nice install. I like the pump block and the manifolds.
I have heard the fish tank cleaner being used. Smart. Could you not have had the ply on the inside and pilot holed that? As long as someone was holding it that would work.
Is that the same hose the CC used to use? I do like the the clear re-inforced a bit better. My old hose like that had split.

The only real concern I have is the ball valves. You really do need them in there. Am I guessing that your emergency plan is to jump over board and plug the hole from underneath? Also screens on the intakes. They prevent weeds and some of the crap from getting in there.

If you go to any lakes or out of state that requires you to get an inspection done you will fail because of the no ball valves. That is a USCG requirement just like life jackets. I do like the color coded pumps. The only other thing I see is how are you keeping debris out of the pumps? I don't see any type of screen or filter?

yes i do plan on plugging it from underneath.... believe me, if something happens, my boat is not going to sink... as far as an inspection goes, i am not going to be going to different states at all, my boat is on a barge on her way to hawaii. there i have a 2 mile river that is pretty narrow so no one is in risk of there life. i dont see how i could fail an inspection anyways becuase the the thru hull for the raw water intake for the engine doesnt have a ball valve.

yes the hoses are exactly like the factory ones just bigger. i guess i just like the flexibility of them, all my connections have 2 hose hose clamps, so i doubt i will run into a problem. i just didnt have room for ball valves. it made the manifold to heavy and i was scared it could crack around the thru hull.

as far as debris goes... the pumps are supposed to pass it like it aint no thing. we will see how it works out.

i guess i could have put the wood on the other side... didnt think about it at the time

I like your install over all. I am not bashing. But need to say a couple things regarding your above post?

Wrong. I hate it when people say that. Always a risk.

You are never going to crack around the thru hull with the additional weight of ball valves. I would still put them on.
I would be skeptical on the statement about the pumps passing stuff. That is a pretty big orifice and it can take some sizeable chunks of stuff that those pumps are going to jam up on.

I put in a sort of similar system a couple years ago. I really think both of those things are smart to add to yours.

Anyway, nice job, nonetheless. You are going to love it.

i ordered the ball valves when i ordered all the bronze pieces to make the manifold the room was just so limited... as far as people being of risk. as long as you can swim 40 feet with out drowning then you will live. but thanks for liking it. and just so everyone knows... i have tested the the rubber stopper and when in place it the a very minor drip

They definitely don't give you a lot of room in there. Try doing it with a big block in the way... not that I minded

That looks really good. I did the same sacs as you but had a custom one made for the locker. The wake is sweet! What year is your SAN? I took out my ski pylon on my 01 to put my pumps in, but I may try to reverse them like you have yours to keep the pylon. I kept the factory 3/4" and went to 1" for the front two bags and from 1 1/4" to 1" Y's for the rear bags.

i have an 01 as well, yeah man it works perfect reversing them, i did had to cut off this cross member thingy on the seat bottom though to make it work. i was scared it would be flimsy but it is still super sturdy. i just used the u- bolt from the pylon to bolt that piece of aluminum that the pumps are mounted on.
