I am looking at buying a 2004 SAN from a guy in TN. He bought the boat from a owner in NC. I asked him if the boat had ever been used in salt water and he said he wasn't 100% sure but he didn't think so. I had him send me several pics of the motor from all different angles. Here is one of the manifold. What do you guys think. Does this look like normal wear for a 2004. I have seen salt water manifolds and they look much worse than this, but you never know. All of the bolts and wires look to be rust free, but I saw how you guys picked apart the 220 that is up for sale and it made me think to just post up pictures here to see if you guys see anything i'm not.

RE: normal use?
I would say normal. Bolts around the exhaust get hot and cook off the paint. No paint in a marine environment equals rust. That would not scare me in the least bit. especially if the rest of the boat has zero rust.2001 Super Air Nautique

RE: normal use?
Easww, easy big guy. There is no need to yell. Last time I looked at the map TN and NC actually touch, so I wouldn't say it has been all over the country. What to you doesn't look good. I know who has owned the boat and it has only changed hands once. The owner now just doesn't know for sure if the NC owner ever put it in salt water. He said that the original owner used it in a lake but I had a salt water boat once and just want to make sure that never happens again.
Jeff, I wouldn't use one but what would be the negative of a fram being on there.

RE: normal use?
The joint between the manifold and riser looks pretty good. Check for rust around the V-drive unit, if it's clean then you are probably good to go.
Get rid of that Fram filter... if you buy it.

you cant tell if a boat has been running in salt by the pics of rust on the outside
looks good for a PCM, i can tell you that much
you should changer the risers gaskets every 2 years and exhaust
in a salt environment the manifolds and risers need change every 5 years
